A video filmed by XDA Developer xDrShadowx shows the FAEAF2S running Omni Rom based on Android 4.4 KitKat.
FAEA are one of the few Chinese phone makers who are actually attempting to embrace developers and actively work on bringing third party ROMs to their devices. Of course Oppo have been at this too, but FAEA are focussing on Mediatek hardware, which is notoriously difficult to port ROMs too.
A few months ago we got our first look at CyanogenMod running on the FAEA F2S, today it is the turn of Omni Rom which can been seen briefly running on the FAEAF2S in this video.
Gizchina News of the week
Omni ROM is based on Android 4.4 KitKat and as far as we know this is the first video of Android KitKat running on a Mediatek MT6589T quad-core processor.
Currently their are no details on where we can download Omni ROM for the FAEAF2S so we can assume some bugs need to be ironed out, but we are truly excited with all the running dev interest in Chinese phones and hope it continues!
The FAEAF2S was the flagship FAEA phone of 2013 and features a 5-inch FHD display, 13 mega-pixel camera, 2GB RAM and 1.5Ghz MT6589T processor.
If this is successful, the devs should be able to port this rom to any other 6589T devices and later on everything else. That’s amazing news!
It doesn’t look very smooth to me.
I have a MTK6582 based phone (Tronsmart TS7), and swiping is jerky like nothing I have ever seen. A Galaxy S1 running CM11 is smoother than the TS7… Something which shouldn’t lag, given the specs. Probably Mediatek’s hardware composer implementation is buggy.
I got the same phone (Tronsmart TS7 with MT6582) and it runs as smooth as the Galaxy S3 with CM11 of one of my friends.
But I read in a german forum (chinamobiles .org) that others had the same problem with this phone and that they solved it by doing a full factory reset and/or installing another launcher (for example holo launcher) from the play store… Perhaps you give it a try
Thanks for the tip.
I did a factory reset. It does seem to be much smoother, although not on the level of a GS3 with CM11. Still, it’s an improvement so I can’t complain.
Hopefully we get CM11 for our TS7… Although I feel that without any major capable devs working on our phone it’s a lost cause. It’s a pity because I think ART will really help with the responsiveness.
this video shows no wifi, no gsm, no HW …
If this is successful, the devs should be able to port this rom to any other 6589T devices and later on everything else. That’s amazing news!
