Marvell isn’t as often talked about as say Qualcomm or MediaTek, but the fabricator just took a shy at the headlines thanks to a recent release; a 64-bitquad-coremobilechipset.
Unveiled at this year’s Mobile World Congress, the Marvell PXA1928 chipset comes with a 64-bitquad-corecpu with the cores being built on the Cortex A53 architecture from ARM. Operating at a native frequency of 1.5GHz, the A53 cores are accompanied by a Vivante GC5000 GPU which features support for 1080p video encoding as well as decoding.
Gizchina News of the week
Much like MediaTek’s recent releases, the Marvell PXA1928 is much more an all-round cpu than the average. It comes with many a front covered, which includes cellular connectivity (LTE TDD/FDD, LTE Cat 4, TD-HSPA+, HSPA+, EDGE), common radio (Bluetooth, WiFi a/c, FM radio), as well as the much sought-after NFC radio.
Consumers can expect devices based on the PXA1928 to start shipping as early as next month, with a majority of them being from rising Chinese brands such as Hisense and Coolpad, with a few from established ones like Lenovo.
