JiaYu S2 headed to GizChina soon!

The slender JiaYu S2 smartphone from JiaYu is currently winging its way to the GizChina offices, here are a few new additional details.

The JiaYu S2 is certainly no secret in Chinese smartphone circles. The devices has been seen in numerous photos, and has even received its network license, however is scheduled for launch until after April!

The good news is that demo and review units of the JiaYu S2 have been sent out today and we will be receiving this 6mm thick octacore phone in the next few days. JiaYu have also given us more info about the specification of the new phone, details below.

JiaYu S2 Specifications

The first generation JiaYu S2 will come with a 1.7Ghz Octacore processor running at 1.7Ghz with a choice of either 1GB RAM or 2GB RAM. There will also be choices of either 16-32GB of internal memory, plus space for a 64GB SD card should the built-in storage not suffice.

A 5-inch OGS 1920 x 1080 display has a tough Corning Gorilla Glass coating, and is promised to have slender bezels each side helping to keep the width down to just 67.5mm. Sony supplies the 8 mega-pixel front camera, while the back illuminated 13 megapixel rear is a CMOS unit from Panasonic.

The measures in a 139 x 67.5 x 6mm yet there is still enough room for dual micro SIM cards (GSM: 900/1800mhz WCDMA: 850/900/2100mhz), plist GPS, WIFI, Bluetooh, and OTG. Our only concern is the 2000mAh battery, but hopefully wireless charging is supported for easy topping up.

As soon as the phone arrives I’ll get it i front of the camera.

Hi Andy.
When can we expect the review of Jiayu G2F? I would especially know how god is the pentile display of G2F compared to other display in this +- price range (for example Iocean X7 HD etc).

  Today JiaYu told me they would send me an OGS sample to compare against the current 720p. Hopefully it won’t take long to arrive.

Hi Andy, what about LTE? Do they plan to implement LTE capable Mediatek chips in this phone later, in next generations? Our city is almost fully covered with LTE now so it is quite relevant topic to me. thanks P.

  If I was in charge of the S2 development it wouldn’t launch without LTE. Let’s see what JiaYu plan to do.

Dear Andi,
please, while making the review, double check if and how the gps is working. I am currently using G3 and GPS is a nightmare (sometimes useless for more than 300km), for me and for a lot of other users this is extremely important information. There are rumours that MTK did not make any progress with GPS efficiency in MT6592… Thanks in advance!

  I have the second batch or joyau g3 dual core. GPS issue is solved with last miui ROM.

    Than please share with its location, I still need to live with my G3 as S2 is not yet available…
    I doubt it is solved, as it sometimes works excellent and sometimes it has no idea where it is, but still claims that precision error is less than 10 meters…

  GPS is nightmare on almost all MTK 6589/6589T devices but I think it is better made on MT6572W (currently using it) / MT6582/ MT6592 so no wories for now.

    I have read opinions written by direct users of Zopo ZP998 (the, so called, first 8 core chinese smartphone), that GPS is sometimes completely unusable, i.e. after waiting for several minutes for a fix they just gave up, because there was no progress in getting a fix at all…

Sounds like a good phone! The battery however…. Andi what’s up with wireless charging? Did they promise something special in that department? Or the same old solution?

I must buy this phone as my Jiayu G4 Basic Version wasn’t a disappointment as custom rom is always available the only down fall was the lack 900 3G frequency which made 3G network to be sucking let me hope that this one poses 900 3G frequency as stated by Andi as its vital in Africa

Hi Andi, can you test the UMTS 900 Mhz frequency ? … I doubt about that !
But I can, thank god I have colleagues which are working at Singapore and at Macau…
THE only thing I want from you Andi is to tell me, is this phone is already available for buying out now at Singapore and Macau streets and if YES, I’ll order it through my colleagues in one week and they will deliver it to me to Bulgaria (Europe) and I’ll be able to test it in my office where I’m 100% sure that UMTS 900 Mhz is available/mandatory, because currently when I use my JIAYU G4T Basic most of the time I have EDGE only and only on some places I have HSPA+, but with the Haier W718+ IP67 MT6572W (Official WCDMA 900/2100 Mhz support) I have HSPA+ all over the place ! Please let me know if there is any possibility to buy this phone from Singapore or Macau streets and once I got it, I’ll write the greates review you’ve ever seen, cause I know what exactly to review for full cutomer satisfaction, cause I definitelly know the MediaTek chipsets and phones !
Excuse me for my rude behaviour over the past years, but I’m definitelly MediaTek phone addict and MediaTek phones are my drug 😀
