OnePlus have announced the main camera sensor on the OnePlus One will be a 13 mega-pixel Sony Exmor IMX214 unit.
Pete Lau, CEO of OnePlus, said on his companies forums that their aim isn’t to compete with DSLR’ dedicated cameras with the OnePlus One phone, and carefully selected the a sensor which would fit in with the design of the handset while offering the best performance.
Gizchina News of the week
The Sony Exmore IMX214 which OnePlus have opted for is a 13 mega-pixel CMOS unit with and F2.0 aperture. A 6 lens optical arrangement promises to prevent distortation of images, while image stabilisation is built-in too.
As well as still photos the OnePlus One can also capture 4K video, and slow-motion video at 120fps.
The front camera is a 5 mega-pixel shorter, more than enough for selfies, video calls and more.

Beat you to it
When will this phone be launched? When will it be available? All this news about nothing is really starting to annoy me lol. If only adblocker could block the term “oneplus”.
This is all well and good, but it’s hasn’t been more than a couple of months since Pete promised “world beater” features, and now he’s revealed (yet again) middling 2013 tech along with a heaping load of new rationalizations.
Maybe I’m a little sensitive to execs over-hyping and under-delivering. I think a bit of honesty and transparency would be refreshing.
I’ve lost patience with them. The OnePlusOne is a write off. Hopefully the OnePlusTwo will be better, if the company lasts long enough to get to a second product.
Might not be a “world beater” or a “flagship killer”, but the PR orchestration has been masterful. They are playing their audience like violins. I’m sure the OnePlus will be a fine device, but I’d still like to hear how they came to define “Never Settle” as “Thoughtfully designing a collection of rational choices based on what’s readily available to meet a certain price point”.
I think they’re hyping the One+ and prolonging the launch date because they’re either gonna launch two versions at two different price points, or, within two months of the One+ launch they launch a One+ 2.
Either way promises were made to be broken and since we’re yet to see a literal game changer as is what was said and hyped too, we all feel a bit cheated and a bit owed!
