Video unboxing and first hands on with the Chuwi V99X 3G Android tablet with 9.7-inch Retina display.
There was a time that 3G Android tablets were few and far between. Now though there are thousands of options to choose from, each with their own unique feature sets. The Chuwi V99X Android tablet flaunts 3G connectivity, a solid alloy body, dual cameras, powerful quad-core processor and eye pleasing 9.7-inch 2048 x 1536 Retina display.
Chuwi have created quite a package with the V99X, a tablet which looks like it should slot nicely between the original iPad and the new iPad air (thinner bezels than the iPad but not as thin as the Air), but at just $243.99 is much cheaper and boasts a Retina display and removable 3G card as standard.
The all glass front is intercepted by a white plastic border before wrapping around to the rear of the tablet. The rear is manufactured of alloy with a textured finish to aid grip. We also find the external speaker grill, rear 5 mega-pixel auto-focus camera and Chuwi logo on the back.
A single loan power button is the only physical control on the tablet Everything else from volume control to interacton with the near stock Android 4.2.2 OS is performed on screen. The only other external features are the 2 mega-pixel front camera, SD memory card bay, DC power jack, headphone jack and Micro USB.

Chuwi V99X First Impressions
The Chuwi V99x represents good value for money on paper, but there are a few details that any potential buyer should be aware of. The external speakers aren’t as good as other tablets and don’t perform anywhere near as good as the unit’s on the iPad mini. The rear 5 mega-pixel camera is slow and really not much use, and with the large glass panel, alloy body and 9500mAh battery it is a heavy tablet (538g according to my scales), this can quickly become tiring when trying to watch a movie or read. It is also disapointing that the V99X doesn’t have GPS, as with that large Retina display it would have made an excellent travel companion.
The Rockhips RK3188 1.8Ghz quad-core processor, 2GB RAM, Retina display and 3G the overall level of hardware is good and at $243.99 it represents good value for money, and would suit people who aren’t really all that mobile with their tablets (which makes 3G redundant on the V99X).
For me personally the Chuwi V99X isn’t a tablet I would buy, I would prefer something with GPS and a ligther body so I can use it outside while, traveling and exploring new cities. For those of you who do fancy the look of the V99X though you can take a look at the tablet over on the Coolicool website at the link below.
