Poll: Will you buy the Oppo Find 7?

oppo find 7 hands on

If you hadn’t already noticed the Oppo Find 7 launched today and the great news is that there were few surprises i.e. most of the rumours were accurate, but is the Oppo Find 7 going to be a phone you will buy?

The Oppo Find 7 is a sensible, not flashy, update to the already solid Oppo Find 5. Specifications for the Oppo Find 7 are spot on for a 2014 flagship phone, and compared to other flagship models we have seen (Galaxy S5, Vivo Xplay 3S etc) the Find 7 would be the most sensible buy, but will you buy one?

Gizchina News of the week

As you can see it’s a pretty stacked phone with some amazing hardware features and some nice tweaks to Color OS running on the phone. The Oppo Find 7 is a solid phone, with great specs and excellent performance, but I don’t think I will buy one. It’s a sensible phone and I want to be a bit different, I’m probably totally wrong for not wanting to buy one, but I ‘d like to see what others (Xiaomi, OnePlus, IUNI) have in store before buying my next phone.

not impressive at all. Gpu wouldn’t be able keep up with 2k screen. Also 1080p movies would look a little bit washed out if you watch in full screen mode. Note 3 and s4 can produce 60 megapixel photos, so what is so good about this 50 megapixel? If it had a F1.8 aperture, it would have impressed a bit.

how can you know this? have you actually had a 2k display in handheld factor?
also why should it look washed out, aren’t there good upscaling methods available?

From what I’ve seen, the GPU performs just fine with the 2k screen. There’s no reason for 1080p movies to look washed out since there are many good upscaling methods. Also, the Note 3’s 60MP shots are panorama shots, which are literally just a group of pictures stitched together to make an extremely long one. The Find 5 produces normal sized 50MP shots, which is significantly different. And you failed to mention the Find 7 uses a Sony IMX214 CMOS sensor, which should help produce better pictures.

        March 22, 2014

Well, yes they are panorama shots. But oppo also has only 13 mp sensor and that says it all… 50 mp shots look a little bit better but it is only upscaling bullsh*t. Oppo has their super zoom so it may also help(the good side).
As for the screen try watching 720p movie and 1080p movie on an 1080p screen, You’ll see the difference if you have eyes. The movies wouldn’t be washed out but there is a difference. The same goes to 2k screen. And as for perfomance, watch the review note 3 vs 2014 note (tablet) and the reviewer mentions that the big one with 2k screen sometimes get lag because of too high resolution. And gpu is all the same here. And even if human with perfect vision can barely see some individual pixels all the way up to 600 PPI, screen is still a little bit gimmicky, because there’s almost no content to throw at this screen and use all this resolution at 100%.

The Find 7 takes 13MP photos. When you set it to SuperZoom mode, it takes 10 13MP photos, takes the best 4 and turns it into a 50MP photo. It’s called lucky photo or something, and it’s been used for astronomy for a while now. It’s not just “upscaling bullshit”. Also, I pretty much watch 720p videos everyday on my ThL W11 and there’s definitely no wash out to be seen. There’s literally no problem at all. Also, not only is the Note 2014 a 10-inch tablet, it’s got a higher resolution and it’s running on the older Snapdragon 800 MSM8974AB, and also TouchWiz just sucks. The Find 7 is running on the newest and fastest Snapdragon 801 MSM8974AC, which has 20% faster GPU that is way more suitable for the high res display.

I knew all along how the 50 mp photos work but it is not a pure sensor with pure resolution. It doesn’t come anything near the nokia 808 or 1020. And what can I say about your eyes if you can’t see the difference between 1080p and 720p…? I have 1366×768 resolution on my laptop, which is nothing near the 1080p but I ALREADY see the difference when I play 720p and 1080p, it’s not washed out but there is very noticable difference. As for the 2k phone take a look at this :
            http://blog.gsmarena.com/oppo-find-7-variants-benchmarked/
maybe benchmarks will teach you that slightly clocked up chip doesn’t do a sh*t to graphics and can’t keep up with the cheaper version.
You will also see how screwed the 2k screen is when it comes to colours.

I will seriously consider if it natively launches India and doesn’t have the bloated price like The Oppo N1. If It is launched at 29,990 then I will definitely take it but if they launch it at 42,990 then FU!

Not for me either, if Gionee can fit a 16mp sensor in the E7 and Zopo can manage a 14mp shooter then why can’t high end phones like this or the Vivo manage anything better than a 13mp?? I’m still leaning towards the Vivo xplay 3s over this as this will be very expensive in the EU once VAT is added and defeats the number 1 rule as to why we buy Chinese phones; price!

I might as well buy a well known branded phone in my own country with the luxury of a full warranty and without the expense of sending to China (or anywhere else) at my expense if a repair is needed. Hopefully we will get some killer phones once the MTK6595 arrives with much more affordable pricing from mainstream Chinese manufacturers.

Mpixels No. don’t mean a thing…i have Nokia N8 with 12Mp, and i can bet that it’s better then that one at Gionee, or 16Mp on Galaxy S5.
don’t look just in to numbers…there is a lot of things that is important to makes good photos.

and i totally agree with rest of your post…it’s just too expensive for us in EU to import it (20-25% of VAT on chinese price).
for the same or a litlle bigger price, i can buy Z1, SGS S4, or HTC ONE, with 2 years of warrenty.
and even if ‘m not like that, most people who spending that kind of money are doing that to show it, as a status simbol, which OPPO can’t be.
others buy it on contract, so it’s not a game for oppo ether…

The Elife E7’s camera does actually hold up quite well against the N8’s. Not sure which is better, (I didn’t thoroughly check them), but they’re both pretty impressive.

Agree with the rest of post though.

Price / release date very important. Yes if I could order the int. 2K version tomorrow for Ā„3998
The One+ is the only other unknown. Z2 tempting, little expensive.

The screen looks fabulous and I am excited about RAW capacity of camera software and look forward to see the quality of pictures as and when you do a full review. Please give links to original format pictures, and if at all possible comparisons to N1 and other top camera centric phones, Sony/Nokia in particular.

How does it compare with the One Plus One ?

  17. March 19, 2014

Only if I can buy it until 15 April. If not available until then I go to buy something else.

The thing which is turning me down from a guaranteed buy is the size. Why oppo why… 5.5″ is Huge. 4.9″ or 5″ would be perfect, everything larger as 5″ is a negative point in my comparison list. Unfortunately it also comes only with Android 4.3 šŸ™

I am just getting a little confused with all these Companies trying to out do each other so quickly. Why are we paying for R&D or is this the way of the future. At least there will be no recalls at this rate. Nobody is going to have a phone long enough for it to fail. If you do then it’s a pity when the spare parts run out at the end of every week. šŸ™‚
