7.9 inch and 2048 x 1536 iFive Mini3 hands on

iFive Mini3

We break away from our norm of Chinese Android smartphones to bring you a hands on with the popular iFive Mini3 Android tablet.

It’s easy to see where iFive got the inspiration fro the iFive Mini3 tablet, but rather than going down the route of making a like for like iPad mini that runs Android OS, iFive updated some of the hardware on their little tablet, the most notable update being the 7.9-inch 2048 x 1536 resolution display! Full specifications can be seen in the table below.

Gizchina News of the week

If you have held an iPad mini you will have a very good idea just how thin and comfortable the iFive Mini3 is in the hand and in use. The all glass front oozes quality, and the powerful Rockchip 1.6Ghz processor with 2GB RAM makes easy work of throwing around all those extra pixels. It is worth mentioning that when originally running the tablet on the shipped firmware there was a little lag here and there, since then though I have installed an updated and the iFive runs much better now.

The comfortable body and small size make the iFive Mini3 a great companion while on the go, and the high resolution 2048 x 1536 resolution display makes viewing a real please, text is especially crisp and clear. Overall iFive have created an impressive tablet with excellent hardware, just be sure to run the latest firmware and keep an eye on updates and this little device should serve you well.

1.9 inch seems pretty small to me… Andi, check for 2 other typos on the 2nd paragraph

Despite the fact that its an ipad rip, iFive seem to make god quality products, i wouldn’t trust the RK3188 to power such a high resolution display though. I heard a rumour they will upgrade this to the RK288 when its released so waiting for that seems like a better option as it will be a huge step up in processing.

Yeah, RK3188 is a very good chipset, but 2048×1536 has roughly the same number of pixels as QHD display. I would say that even Snapdragon 800 (MSM8974-AA) would struggle at such resolution.

Glad to see they got their act together and pushed a KitKat update though 🙂

Could you recommend any similar tablet (7.9″, retina, Quad Core) but with 3G connectivity?
