Touted as the world’s slimmest Android smartphone, Gionee’s Elife S5.5 was launched in India today at an event held in Goa.
You’d have heard of the device previously when it was initially showcased to the world at the MWC in Barcelona. True to its name, the Elife S5.5 flaunts a 5.5mm thick (‘thin’ would perhaps be a better choice) body, without losing out on the punch. The device features an aluminium frame to protect the rather subtle design, with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 taking care of the front, which consists of a 5-inch 1920 x 1080p screen. On the inside, the Elife S5.5 is powered by the MediaTek MT6592 octa-core processor, which is backed by a good 2GB of RAM. With a 13 mega-pixel rear and a 95-degree wide angle 5 mega-pixel front, the Gionee phone is no mug with the camera as well.
Gizchina News of the week
The Elife S5.5 comes with 16GB on-board storage, however, the device does miss out on a microSD slot. Akin to other manufacturers, Gionee too top the Android OS (v4.2 Jelly Bean) with some Gionee flavour in the form of their Amigo UI.
With a price tag of Rs. 22,999 ($384), the Elife S5.5 isn’t the cheapest octa-core smartphone in India, but well, those who’d fancy this device will have their own reasons. The smartphone will go head on against devices like the Micromax Canvas Knight, Wickedleak Wammy Passion X, etc.
