Don’t think Xiaomi is on a war path to go from popular Chinese phone manufacturer to world wide giant? The company plans to sell 60 million phones this year. That is a little under half of what Apple, the largest phone manufacturer in the world, did last year, so it isn’t hard to see that the ambitions for the four year old company are high.
Xiaomi is well on its way to that goal however, as the company has announced that it sold 11 million phones so far this year. That figure goes to show that Xiaomi is continuing its amazing growth. It hasn’t hurt that Xiaomi has been jumping into new territories, including Taiwan and Singapore. The company also has plans for India and Malaysia later this year, as well as an expansion into Europe. Xiaomi also recently released the Redmi Note, a budget priced Phablet that packs a powerful set of specs (About $161 for a 1.7Ghz Octa- core CPU, 720p screen and 2GB of RAM) . Xiaomi sold 100k Redmi Notes in the first 30 minutes it was available.
These sales figures, combined with Xiaomi’s aggressive pricing strategy and recent hiring of Hugo Barra, Google’s former head of Android, show that Xiaomi isn’t just a manufacturer that Chinese phone fans should be watching, but rather, the phone manufacturer that all observers of the tech scene should be watching.
