ZTE on Saturday managed to pull off something only the likes of Xiaomi usually do. According to reports, the Chinese maker managed to sell 50K units of its Grand S II smartphone on Saturday in less than a minute!
To be a little more precise, the 50K units of the Grand S II were reported to be sold in 58 seconds. It was Tmall, a well-known ecommerce portal in China and a few other neighbouring markets including Taiwan and Hong Kong, which managed to rake in the headline grabbing sales figure.
We’ve extensively covered the ZTE Grand S II, right from its inception to rumours to launch, and even pitted against the fiery OPPO Find 7. The phone features a rather flagship-esque 5-inch FHD panel, and is powered by the Snapdragon 801 which operates at 2.3GHz through the 4 cores, along with 2GB of RAM. Besides 16GB of on-board storage, the Grand S II also does a 13 mega-pixel rear camera (this one comes from Sony) and a 2 mega-pixel front facer. With a good specification sheet to boast, the device also advertises itself via an affordable price tag.
Gizchina News of the week
China’s Xiaomi is best known for this sort of ‘gimmicky’ marketing; the manufacturer is known to release only a relatively small batch of devices every now and then, which often results in extensive media footage. This, however, is perhaps the first time ZTE is seen indulging in the same. We can’t say for certain if this was a publicity stunt from ZTE or the company indeed got overwhelmed by consumer demand, but ZTE wouldn’t mind either way, we think.
