Lost in the shuffle of 4/23’s slew of announcements from several companies, was MediaTek’s conference. There, they revealed more than half a dozen new CPUs.
At its #EverydayGenius event, MediaTek showed several CPUs, some of which we were aware of and some of which were brand new. Of note, is MediaTek’s continued growth towards alternative smart devices, like wearables and Smart TVs.
Lets run through the list of devices from the conference.
The MT6595 “First Octa-Core LTE Enabled CPU For International Markets”
The MediaTek MT6595 is a System on Chip (SoC) with an Octa-Core CPU based off of ARM’s big.LITTLE architecture. As such, it has four ARM Cortex-A17 and four ARM Cortex-A7 chips. It is designed for international markets, supporting FDD-LTE/TD-LTE/TD-SCDMA/WCDMA/GSM bands. MediaTek says it is the first Octa-core chip to support that many bands.
The MediaTek MT6595 supports 4K resolution, cameras up to 20MP, MiraVision for improved image quality and ANT+ for low powered fitness tracking. No word on what speed the MT6595 will be clocked at.
The MT6752 “First 64-Bit Octa-Core LTE CPU”
We already knew about the MT6752, MediaTek announced it back in February, so we won’t spend too much time on it. It is designed to bring high end performance to the mid market, something MediaTek calls the “Super-mid market.” This SoC supports 1080p video, 16MP cameras, and supports MiraVision and ClearMotion. It utilizes eight 2.0Ghz ARM Cortex-53 CPUs and rock a Mali-T760 GPU.
The MT8392 “First Octa-core Tablet CPU”
This chip was previously outed by AnTuTu a while back, so it is nice to see MediaTek finally go ahead and make it official.
Gizchina News of the week
It can handle 1080p video, uses eight ARM Cortex A7 CPUs clocked at 2.0Ghz and the first tablets sporting it are due out “soon.”
The Ascer “SoC For Tiny Wearables”
The Ascer was already announced at CES. It is a tiny SoC for wearable devices. At only 5x5mm, it utilizes Bluetooth LE to connect with your devices. The chip is designed to do the run of the mill wearable set of tasks, like take pictures.
The MT6630 “First Five-In-One Combo SoC”
The MT6630 was also announced back in late February. Its claim to fame is that it supports dual-band single-stream 802.11a/b/g/n/ac wifi channels with a frequency range of 20, 40 and 80MHz.
It supports Bluetooth Low Energy and ” tri-band reception of GPS, GLONASS, Beidou, Galileo, and QZSS.”
The MT3188 “Wireless Charging For All”
MediaTek already showed off this technology back at CES and then again in late February. The technology works with multiple types of wireless charging technologies. It can also work on its own or in conjunction with the MT6595 and MT6732 or other SoCs.
The MT5328 “4K Smart TVs Focused Chip”
This chip is brand new to us. It obviously supports 4K video and runs a Dual-Core Cortex A17 CPU and an ARM Series 6 GPU. It remains to be seen if MediaTek can squeeze 4K encoding into such modest specs.
The MT6595 is already available for manufacturers, the other chips should be seen in products sometime this year.
