Xiaomi unveiled their first ever octa-core device, the Redmi Note on March 19th this year. Exactly a week after that, it was learnt that the company sold 100,000 units of the device in a little over half an hour, in typical Xiaomi marketing fashion.
By the looks of it, the device is still very much in demand. Reports claim that Xiaomi managed to get another 15 million pre-orders for the phablet, which, as GSMArena rightly reports, beats numbers generated by Samsung’s Galaxy S5 as well as Apple’s iPhone 5S and 5C first weekend sales combined.
However, Xiaomi are known to be gimmicky with their approach. What the company defines as a ‘pre-order’ is completely different from what you’d perceive. First off, it isn’t quite necessary for a Xiaomi pre-order to involve payment; signing up for information on the device qualifies you as a pre-order customer.

Regardless, the Xiaomi Redmi Note remains to be one of the most affordable octa-core phablets, more so from a brand as well established as Xiaomi. The device costs just $130 in China, and comes with a 5.5-inch 720p display, a MediaTek octa-core processor, 13 mega-pixel rear camera, 5 mega-pixel front camera and a 3200mAh battery. Like any other Xiaomi phone, the Redmi Note too comes with MIUI pre-installed.
Not long ago, Xiaomi announced plans to venture into new markets and continents, and a device such as the Redmi Note, alongside the likes of the popular Mi3, Mi2S, etc. could spell disaster for competitor brands. The company is also rumoured to be working on its first tablet, so there’s quite a lot going on in the Xiaomi camp.
