Before they launched the OPO, OnePlus posted the above photo of their “Flagship Killer” claiming that the 5.5-inch device sits under a 5-inch Sony Xperia phone, keep reading to see the video.
In all honesty the 5-inch Sony Xperia Z1 isn’t the smallest of 5-inch phones in the world, but still the claim that a 5.5-inch device can fit beneath it had many tech enthusiasts amazed! It all hit the fan though when the official dimensions of the OPO were announced stating the phone was in fact larger than the Z1
Gizchina News of the week
OnePlus One beneath a Sony Xperia Z1
So as you can see, and by now probably know, the OPO does almost fit beneath the Z1 in width but not length. Some fans of the start-up have taken the news well, while others aren’t at all pleased.
What is your take on all of this? Is the size really a problem or should we be more concerned about how those invitations are going to be distributed?
[ OnePlus ]
comparing the dimensions of an all water & dust proof phone to a regular phone is so meaningful! xD
and calling a phone which wont be available anytime soon “flagship killer” is completely ridiculous on its own already
To be honest, while i do like the one plus design i think the ‘never settle’ tagline was not really applicable to a lot of users and in fact the size was a big oversight. The fact remains many people do not want to carry a huge phablet. This phone is massive. My friend was very interested until i told him how big it was and he instantly wrote it off saying he didn’t want a huge phone. Why they did not make it 5 inches or release a mini version is beyond me. Shows a fundamental lack of understanding of the market in my opinion if they honestly believe that everyone wants a huge comedy size phone. At the end of the day they want to sell product and by making it so big they have alienated a significant proportion of potential customers.
Yeah tell that to your iphone owner friends. Missed the point of what i was saying totally. Phablet size is still niche, numbers dont lie.
iPhone shoppers have no choice in display size. Its either 3.5 or 4.0 inch for a device running ios. Now by your logic, the iPhone 4S should be flying off shelves, but it isn’t. The “biggest” iphone is.Faster than all previous smaller iphones. Numbers don’t lie,big phones sell. Now if you were a startup, what would you make?
Read my below comment, cant be btohered to explain again, you literally can’t understand what i’m saying. Im saying the majority of people dont want 5.5 inch + sized PHABLETS as they’re phone. Most people want 5 inch or below. All sales figures to date reflect this. There is a significant size difference one you go 5.5 inch plus. Look at a One plus next to a Nexus 5 and you will see what i mean.
Even Apple themselves know they need a bigger phone. And do you know which one sells closest to the iphone? The 5.7″ Note 3. The Note 3 and Note 3 alone, sells half Apples TOTAL iPhones. They don’t have as high profit margins per phone so apple are quick to point out that they still make more profit,BUT BIG PHONES SELL. Understand that.
Yeah every one of those phones is under 5.5 inches apart from the note. So the majority of people like phones below 5.5 inches, exactly as i was saying. THEY WANT PHONES NOT PHABLETS. Thanks for backing up the point ive been trying to make.
Note 3 hit its mark twice as fast as the Note 2,and is outselling the S4 which sold about as fast as Note 2. If you are still missing the pattern, the bigger the phone, the faster it sells. Now, don’t confuse overall dimensions with screen size. Saying “users don’t want anything bigger than 5.5 inch ” is FALSE,because Note 3 is literally flying off shelves, why? Its smaller than note 2 with more screen. LG G2 is smaller than the 4.7 inch HTC One M7,guess which one sold more? It was the 5.2 incher. I could go on,but I think you get it.
Outselling S4? Source?
Last I check Note 3 is at 10M on Dec 2013 and S4 is 40M on its 6th month.
A few days behind. Thankyou. However, the S4 has seen its time, the S5 has replaced it. Note 3 is still the go to Samsung at the moment.
My point is their Galaxy S line is more successful than their Note line which was your point before the U-turn (gee I wonder why), so thank you for proving my point I guess?
And no, S4 is actually a bit smaller than S3 and Note 3 is smaller than Note 2 which in turn smaller than Note 1, talking about width and thinness, Note line is actually getting smaller.
The discussion from the beginning was on screen size, which i’m sure you noticed I clarified should not be confused with overall dimensions. I hold my point that on the matter of screen size, big sells.
@Allanitomwesh
According to you who? you?
There’s no official sales data for S5 yet but the one we have is painting it favorable even against S4 sales.
Samsung’s own prediction

Which is sound because S5 is bigger. Successive Galaxy S have been bigger and sold better. Successive Galaxy Notes have been bigger and sold better. See a pattern?
Always funny to listen to people who consfuse “the market” and “everyone” with “my opinion” and “me” xD
lol, you’re a clown, if the market leaders mainly sell big phones of course people will be buying big phones. Your smoking crack if you think everyone wants a 5.5 inch phablet sized phone though. 5 and below is the cut off point for many people and then there’s this phone called the iPhone not sure if you’ve heard of it sells quite a few units as well. Loads of companies all over asia and beyond selling millions upon millions of sub 5 inch devices. Not just my opinion at all.
Ummm… is that the same crack that you’re smoking while you try to bully others into thinking that 5″ screens are better (um… at least for you).
Your iPhone comments will not be relevant until the rumored IPhone 6 (with 4.8″ and 5.5″ screens) comes out. At that point Apple fans will start telling us that Apple INVENTED the idea of big screens and that everyone else copied them. To say that Apple fans “chose” small screens now is ridiculous, they’re just taking the iPhone with the screen that comes with it. Their choice was Apple or non-Apple, nothing else was relevant.
How is it possible for you to read my comment and completely miss the point? Bullying? What are you talking about?. Im saying that not everyone wants A PHABLET SIZED PHONE, WHICH IS 5.5 INCHES OR MORE. Im not talking about BIG phones in general. I’m saying a huge majority of people want something 5 inch or less, not a PHABLET. Which I stand by and if you look at the sales figures you will find is probably true otherwise everyone would have a galaxy note or similar wouldn’t they? JeeZ….
Im one of the minority then, 5″ is far to small…I compare my S4 to my Note 3 and cant see ever going back to a screen that small.the S4 makes a nice paperweight now.
As for what others want I could care less, I am only concerned with what works for me. Perhaps a few of you should give that a try.
You should not join in this conversation if you don’t even want to partake on the initial point.
I am also not concerned with what people think I should or should not do so don’t waste everyone’s time with what you “think” others should do..stick to the topic please and thank you.
You ever find your own post ironic? No I guess not.
Tiny iPhone sells really good!!!!!

cant decide what is more funny:
using “many people”, “loads of companies” and “selling millions” as wannabe-arguments while disregarding any proven facts
or
using insulting language to pseudo-strengthen the own lacking argumentation and “convince” others
nevertheless: thanks for the laugh 🙂
Samsung has two top of the line product line for both size, guess which one is the most successful?
Though again, yes, there are market for big phone but is it really smart to focus solely on that market like OPO do?
Let’s wait and see and let the market decide.
One plus one has built a truly extraordinary phone, and offering it to customers at an extraordinary price. Spec wise and build quality wise no other phone come close to it in 300 to 350 $ price range. And it’s 5.5 inch display brings out the fun in videos. Dimensions of the phone are great considering it has 5.5 inch display which supports split screen on android.
I’m actually finding the O+ marketing amusing now. It’s farcical, very Reginald Perrin. And one of the nicest bits of the find 7 is the notification light – exactly the shape of a OPO-Z1 in the vid.
Invitations, when did Andy join up? me 13 Jan, feel guilty for taking the CEO’s member name.
