Alternative or clone, whatever the Orientphone S5 is it is no coincidence that it shares it’s appearance with the Galaxy S5, only at a lower $200, unlocked price point.
I’m not personally a fan of clone Android phones, but I can certainly understand the appeal especially when devices like the OrientPhone S5 are available with specs enough to make similar priced phones blush with embarrassment.
Gizchina News of the week
The main lure of the S5 will be it’s $200 price tag and Galaxy S5 design, but looking past those, we get some interesting hardware choices thrown in too. A “super sensitive” 5.2-inch 1080 FHD display with Corning Gorilla glass, octacore MT6592 processor, 2GB RAM, dual SIM , and 13 mega-pixel rear camera are right up their with phones costing considerably more.
Specifications list the phone as running Android 4.2 with Google Play services, fingers crossed it won’t be long before Android 4.4 Kitkat is made available as an update.
What do you think of this S5 wannabe, and clones in general?

One fatal flaw with most High end Samsung phones is lack of Dual SIM capability. People suffer especially in countries like India, where multiple mobile networks are required to be accessed. Some manufacturer is going to cater to this demand and come up with real high end phones with dual SIM and then bye bye Samsung, Apple, Sony, LG et. al.
I do not know what you are talking about – 90% of ckones support dual Sim inbcluding this one – the problem with Orient company is that they use few factories to produce their OEM phones so you never know which quality you get… There are better clone factories like MPAI and worse like STAR…
I was not referring to Orienthone…my post wz about SAMSUNG high end..lack of dual sim there in !!!
The big advantage of Samsung clones is the ability to use a huge selection of accessories so the big question is if this phone is 1:1 in size like the original or not
Personally, i hate clones. I believe there is nothing as fun as alittle originality in design. Decent specs notwithstanding.
Sounds like a great Device. With Dual SIM, Android 4.4, a decent battery and good camera this can be a great alternative.
does not have android 4.4 and from all of the searching I can find nothing to suggest it will get 4.4
I ordered one last night as my galaxy s2 (back up for buggered s4) gave up the ghost and my s1 (running 4.4) just does not cut the mustard 🙁 fingers crossed it will be as good as it looks on the youtube videos. just got to wait for about 20 days till it gets here 🙁
its got a few flaws-
the ui gets laggy if you install certain apps I think facebook is one of the big culprits (and there is an issue with mtk6592 phones in general with facebook crashing, I had to install an older version which works but asks keeps asking you too update).
the back lighting is a bit uneven (you can see a few of the individual leds lighting brighter though the screen).
It can be somewhat slow switching between home and apps screen (the centre cross grid icon appears a few seconds before the screen changes to the apps).
When you text or receive a text reply, the phone does not add it to the screen below last message, you have to go back out to the message menu and click back in to the message to see it.
Gps does not work out of the box (I could probably mess around and fix it (like I did with the V3i), but I have in car gps so not really been motivated to bother.
Star do not seem to be pushing out any fixes or updates (the phone is a star kingleon g9000).
The good points, the camera is head and shoulders better than my v3i (still not samsung good but defiantly better).
when its not lagging the system is fairly fast and will play most games that I have tried at decent speeds.
The s-view style case works well (I had a galaxy s4 and the placement of the magnet in the cover switched the screen off when the case was folded behind the phone!) and is a good tight fit.
The battery life is good and normally last at least a day (with wifi usage and a fair amount of calls, texts emails etc (the free extra battery is a bonus!)
The price was very good £118 inc postage and £15 in import duty
The phone is a stop gap and as such certainly does the job without too many problems.
Hope this helps
kindest regards
