eBay isn’t the traditional way to launch your product, but it might be the easiest way to get it into a lot of markets all at once. ZTE’s super budget Open C Firefox OS phone has launched exclusively on eBay, for the price of $99.
The Open C phone was announced earlier this year and is part of Mozilla’s plan to get a foothold in emerging markets with its new mobile OS. The first of these to launch the more expensive of its two recently announced Firefox OS phones. The Open C has a 4-inch 480 x 800 screen, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage and the 1.3Ghz dual-core Snapdragon 200 CPU. It has one camera boasting 3.15 MP and runs Firefox OS 1.3.
Gizchina News of the week
eBay is a strange way to launch a phone, but the device is now available on ZTE’s UK and US eBay store. ZTE’s other Firefox OS phone, the slightly lower spec Open II has already gone on sale in select markets in Europe, but this represents the first time several large markets have been able to get a Firefox OS phone directly from a manufacturer.
Firefox OS saw a lot of support at this year’s Mobile World Congress event, with ZTE, Huawei and Alcatel all announcing devices for the fledgling OS.
