When the OnePlus One was revealed to much fanfare (and leaked the just before) people immediately began mocking it for its more than passing resemblance to Oppo’s Find 7a. When it was revealed that Oppo mobile’s parent company (also called Oppo) was a heavy investor in OnePlus, and that the OnePlus, was made in the same facility as the Oppo Find 7a and shares many of the same components, those accusations only increased.
But there are a few key differences between the phone, most notably is its increase in RAM, differences in SIM card/SD card options, storage space and its slight mod on CyanogenMod 11, aptly named CyanogenMod 11S.
Gizchina News of the week
Now, members of the CyanogenMod community have ported CyanogenMod 11S to the Oppo Find 7a, eliminating one of the few key differences between the two phones. Of course, the Find 7a ships with Oppo’s ColorOS and the OnePlus One ships with CyanogenMod 11S already installed, and there are the other differences I mentioned. Still, this allows Find 7a owners to make their device look even more like a OnePlus One if they so choose and this development will likely only increase the number of people making the comparison.

Ian, I think these differences are significant enough to differentiate the two phones 🙂 And not to mention rapid charging (the Find 7a), removable battery (OnePlus One), faster SoC (in favour of the OnePlus One) and the not-so-insignificant price difference!!!
Yes, thanks for the correction 🙂
So the Find 7a would have removable battery, external micro SD storage, rapid charging, whereas the OnePlus One would have better specs, and much cheaper price.
I would still go for the OnePlus One though. Now, if only I can get it now in Canada…
Price is the deciding factor i guess. But seriously after experiencing the fast charge…i don’t know how i survived without it. 30 mins from 40%-100? Count me in. No longer need to worry that gaming on my phone will kill my battery. Removable battery? Don’t need to worry that the fast charge tech will kill the battery. Don’t forget the awesome speakers as well.
Are you using the Find 7a now? How is its availability in South East Asia? I know though, even if it’s still pretty hard to get your hands on the Find 7a, the OnePlus One would even be harder to get. That could be another plus point for the Find 7a obviously.
Yeah i am using it =) It’s officially launched here in my country so it’s easy to get it. Oppo is officially here, not oppostyle or a 3rd party retailer. They even have their service centre’s up and running.
I honestly feel that the OPO is just their little test run at Xiaomi’s marketing strategies. A plan to conquer Xiaomi. But we’ll see what happens
I agree that the perception of the two phones being similar does not match the reality. I was simply trying to poke fun of the situation and many’s initial reaction to the OPO reveal.
I did forget to mention those other differences (although the price goes without saying, and the battery mix up Tjoe mentioned) which probably would have made my point more clear.
Thanks for the correction!
