There had been talks of a sub-$100 Google Nexus smartphone that apparently was in the works earlier this year, but theese rumoues disappeared as quickly as they came up. However, a chirpy bird whispered in our ears earlier today that the entire Nexus project is going to be scrapped as early as next year (again, not the first time either).
Trusted leakster Evleaks today sparked off the entire Android Silver fire again, which as far as we’re concerned would go hand in hand with Nexus’ demise. We’ve talked about Android Silver previously; if you’re late to join the party, here’s what the entire program is about: a deal between Google and various hardware makers to market premium hardware, along with after sales service to match. Adds Evan Blass aka Evleaks, “There is no Nexus 6. Farewell, Nexus. Don’t worry, there’s a silver lining to this cloud… Android Silver, circa February 2015”. Now, how does the everyday geek take this? I for one believe that the current Nexus structure is really working well, and its better left untouched. But Google. They know… or is it.
Gizchina News of the week
There is no Nexus 6. Farewell, Nexus. Don’t worry, there’s a silver lining to this cloud… Android Silver, circa February 2015.
So with no sub-$100 Nexus, no surprisingly high vfm devices like the Nexus 5, will the brand stay? It is indeed very difficult to say at the moment. The given timeline (February 2015) suggests we still have a few months to make merry with what’s available before its all gone.
Let us know what you think.
