Xiaomi’s current flagship, the Mi3 went on sale in Malaysia on the 20th this month, and apparently didn’t stay for long.
In typical Xiaomi fashion, the device sold out well within half an hour — 17 minutes, to be precise. 4000 units of the $280 smartphone were up for sale in the country, where fans clearly didn’t waste any time before getting themselves one. As Android Authorityreports, this indeed is quite impressive even though 4000 isn’t a huge number, since the ever-so-affordable Hongmi series is yet to be introducing in the Malaysian market.
Gizchina News of the week
Xiaomi’s going to give the initial MediaTek powered version of the Hongmi (Redmi) a skip, and will directly introduce the Snapdragon 400 powered Redmi 1S next month.
The company made it clear that it was now eyeing markets other than just China, so it shouldn’t be long before those based in India, Vietnam, etc. find themselves in a situation similar to what the Malaysians found themselves in.
