MediaTek has announced a new quad-core SoC (System on Chip) that comes equipped with the Mali 450MP4 GPU.
The MediaTek MT8127 (an upgrade over the MT8125) has a quad-core (Cortex A7) CPU clocked at 1.5Ghz, the powerful Mali 450 GPU and is designed exclusively for tablets.
The new tablet SoC supports up to 13 megapixel cameras, 1080p video recording and playback, Miracast, NFC, H.256 video encoding, Miravision HEVC and Bluetooth 4.0. So tablets that take advantage of it will have all of the latest advancements in connectivity.
Gizchina News of the week
What they won’t have, unfortunately, is any mobile network support. The SoC does not support mobile networks, which means this is WiFi only.
The Taiwanese MediaTek has had a successful past few years, as their powerful but inexpensive chips have led to a bevy of inexpensive Chinese devices. The MediaTek MT8127 might not be as sexy as the SnapDragon 801 or the nVidia K1, but it still has some decent specs. MediaTek hasn’t announced pricing but it is sure to be below those aforementioned chips and could lead to some high quality tablets at a reasonable price.
What do you think of MediaTek’s newest chipset?

What’s the point of using MediaTek? They won’t release source code for their chipsets.

Hope that the Cube mt8127 will support HEVC (H.265) video playback that would be verry nice.
