When does a phone stop being a “phablet” and become a legitimate tablet with phone capabilities? Probably when its screen is only 0.05-inches smaller than the world’s most popular Android tablet.
PiPO has announced the T5, a budget phone with a tablet size. Measuring in with a physical size of 188.5 x 101.6 x 8.5mm, the PiPO T5 is only 15.5 x 13 x 0.2mm smaller than Google’s latest Nexus 7. But then, the Nexus 7 can’t make phone calls like a regular phone.
First thing first, the PiPO T5 supports both WCDMA and GSM networks, although I was unable to confirm specific frequency bands. It has dual-sim capabilities, a 1.3 Ghz quad-core MediaTek CPU (MTK8382) a 1280 x 600 resolution 6.95 inch screen, 1GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage. It also has a 2 megapixel front facing camera, a 5 megapixel main shooter, a 2,900mAh battery, and 3G data connection.

Of course, it also has the usual data connections WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS.
For those that love faux leather but think the Samsung Note series goes too far, the PiPO T5 has a small amount of Faux leather on the top and bottom of the back of the device.
What makes it stand out is its ¥499 ($80, €59) price point. Its specs may not be amazing but they are capable and it does have a bit of style to boot.
What do you think of PiPO’s new phone tablet?
