Xiaomi’s Hugo Barra has confirmed that Xiaomi will be looking to enter the North American smartphone market in 2015.
This year has seen Xiaomi enter a huge number of markets around Asia, 10 in total by the end of the year including one of the worlds largest, India. For 2015 Xiaomi are planning to tackle the ultimate challenge, the North American smartphone market.
The U.S market is one of the most difficult for smartphone makers to enter and will be doubly so for Xiaomi as they will have to shake the “Made in China” label and stigma, which many U.S customers will unfairly tag the company with.
Gizchina News of the week
Xiaomi have already proved that they are capable of launching flagship smartphones with specs to rival the rest for around $250, if they can manage to get carriers on their side, prices for the Mi3 or the next flagship Xiaomi phone could drop to just $200 with subsidiaries slashed by $100’s. For carriers and customers this is a win win, and something only Xiaomi can currently pull off.
A launch date for Xiaomi in the United States hasn’t been announced, but at least we know that it’s on the cards.
