Call it bad luck, but a batch of Europe buyers of the OnePlus One, who somehow managed to avail an invite before proceeding to pay for the device, have to wait a bit more before they get their hands on their units of the One.
According to an announcement by OnePlus staff, a batch of OnePlus One phones was denied customs clearance due to CE markings on the phone which apparently were’t accepted by customs officials. OnePlus say that they tried to ‘design the regulatory icons (CE) to match the minimalistic style of the rest of the text’, which worked against their favour. However, another batch managed to get through customs just alright.
Unfortunately, some of the phones did not clear customs in Europe. We worked tirelessly on every aspect of the One’s design, including the text on the bottom of the back cover. We designed the regulatory icons to match the minimalistic style of the rest of the text, but the design of the CE icons were unfortunately deemed unacceptable by the customs agents and returned.
All those affected by this delay will be contacted by our team very shortly if they haven’t been already and given more information about expected arrival dates.

Gizchina News of the week
The company is hoping to get this sorted soon, and has pushed back deliveries by another two weeks. In lieu of the tantalizing wait that buyers have to go through, OnePlus are offering a complementary cover and screen protector later this month (which perhaps means you’d receive them in another parcel). We really hope things ‘settle’ (pun intended) soon; so much turbulence isn’t very healthy. And this time we can see that it’s very unintentional as well.
Here’s what the email sent to buyers affected by the delay reads:
Thank you for ordering from oneplus.net. Unfortunately due to an issue with customs in Europe, one of our shipments has been delayed on its way to the warehouse. Your order was among the affected.
The issue stems from our vision for the design of the OnePlus One. For the back cover, we wanted the regulatory icons and text to be in harmony with each other and appear be as minimalistic as possible. In order to achieve this, we modified the CE icon to match the other icons. This was deemed unacceptable and our shipment was returned.
You placed an order that was planned to be shipped last week. Due to unforeseen issues with our product design, we need two more weeks until we can ship. Please accept from us a complimentary cover and screen protector (when they become available later this month) as a token of good faith. You may also cancel your order and receive a full refund.
We sincerely apologize on behalf of the entire OnePlus Team for causing you such inconvenience, and hope you forgive us for making such mistakes in the course of our growth.
Do let us know if you are one of the recipients of the mail.
