iOcean has announced plans for updating the iOcean X8 to Android 4.4 KitKat a while ago, but this does not seem to be the only thing the famous phone maker is working on.
As iOcean announced on their Facebook page a short while ago, they are currently working on an update for the current iOcean X8 firmware, based on Android 4.2.2. This update is supposed to fix some well-known issues, like the touch panel sensitivity problem and the missing light on the three touch buttons. Moreover it will improve the performance of the rear camera (hopefully not only that, but the quality as well) and will fix an issue with phone numbers not being recognized.
Gizchina News of the week
The update will roll out through OTA soon for every owner of the iOcean X8 0512 model. Other X8 owners will have to wait for the release of a manual update file. No words on the exact date of release by now, but iOcean promised to keep their Facebook page updated.
Hi, I bought an iOcean x8 when it was just released and have used it for quite a
while now as my main phone.
I cannot say I have experienced any of the issues you mension. Is 0512 the OS
version ? If this is the case I have 0501 according to the engineer menu. Sometimes
older is better 🙂
The only issue I had was once the battery discharging completely (and the phone
becoming quite hot). No clue why this happenned. It then refused to charge again
for two days, so much that I thought the battery was dead (I suspected the battery
since the phone was still displaying erratically the iocean logo: if it can display a
logo, CPU isn’t fryed… there is hope).
Since I had no answer from the shop I bought it (proverbial Chinese aftersale ?),
and I wanted to check if I could replace the battery, I tryed to open it. After all
the phone was dead isn’t it ? It is VERY easy: you just need a suction cup
place it on the back and lift gently. All this to realise that it was not possible to
find a compatible battery (if somebody can lead me to a good source, you never
know, it might be usefull in the future).
After this failed attempt, I tryed again to charge the phone and… it worked !
No problem since.
I would say that this is a great phone.
