Mediatek’s new flagship MT6795 details exposed, a budget Snapdragon 810?

Details of the Mediatek MT6795 flagship processor have emerged today boasting hardware which could make the Snapdragon 810 blush.

There has been a lot of talk recently of Mediatek’s new 64bit processors having enough poke in them to give SoC’s like the Snapdragon 801 a run for their money. Today, the Snapdragon 810 could be under threat as leaks detail features of the new Mediatek MT6795 chipset.

The MT6795 briefly appeared in a leaked roadmap from Mediatek last week. Now we have more detailed information and a better idea of what to expect from the new power house.

For the MT6795, Mediatek have gone down the same 28nm manufacturing processor but used a 64bit octacore set up made of Cortex A53 cores and A57 cores. The spec sheet claims the processor can run at 2.2Ghz, but we will likely see a faster model capable of around 2.5Ghz nearer to launch too.

The GPU is a PowerV G6200, similar to that found in the iPhone 5S, so we know it is good but we don’t know if it will be as good as the Adreno 430 which comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810.

Dual channel LPDDR3 933Mhz memory is supported by the processor where as Qualcomm gets 64bit LPDD4F 1600mhz. Up to 2560 x 1600 resolution display will be supported by the next generation MTK chip, as will 20 mega-pixel cameras, LTE, Glonass, GPS etc. What’s more the MT6795 is pin compatible with the MT6592 so the upgrade should be quick and painless for most current phones.

Mediatek are stating a launch date of the end of 2014 meaning Q1 2015 flagship Chinese phones are going to be packing these beauties!

I hope so, its about time Mediatek started competing with Qualcomm at the higher end of the market. We, the consumers should be the beneficiaries of this increased competition.

The gpu in this MT6795 have 60% of the perforemnce of the gpu of S800, And the GPU is the S810 will be atleast 50% faster then in the S800..
And we all know that you don’t have what to do with extra CPU power, but extra GPU power (in this case more then 150%) is never bad (better FPS)…
So no, Qualcomm shouldn’t worry about this cpu, because I don’t think it will “run” (with enough high FPS) the high-end games when it will be released.

Nope, I don’t think Qualcomm should be worried.
The fact that the 810 is fabricated on a 20nm process means it will be more power efficient than this MTK; This is simple physics, there’s no way around this.
At the very least Qualcomm need not be worried at the high end, but their Snapdragon 410 parts may be threatened somewhat.

Snapdragon 810 will come later but is on 20nm and you guys seem to be just assuming that the MT6795i is not 8x A53 since based on the 2 leaks there is no info on what cores it is using.
Quad A57 on 28nm is very unlikely to work out well in phones and it couldn’t compete with the same thing on 20nm so Mediatek will have to aim to compete at a later date if MT6795 really is on 28nm.

  The first image states ‘HMP architecture’. This stands for heterogeneous multiprocessor. HMP is a version of the big.LITTLE architecture that allows all 8 cores to operate simultaneously. This coupled with the fact is is a 64B chip heavily implies it will be an A53/A57 big.LITTLE chip.

As much as this is a big improvement from the Cortex A7 powered MT6592, it still does not directly compare with the Snapdragon 810 SoC. I hope this is not gonna be like the MT6589T SoC whose GPU could not comfortably handle Real Racing 3 at FHD (1920 x 1080). I think it will be better to to rock this at FHD than 2K display to make sure it can handle the pushing of those pixels. But, I guess it will all boil down to price finally. The cheaper either of them is, all the better for us all.

The iphone 5s uses the powervr G6430 giving it around 115 GFlops..this new mtk chi(pset uses the powervr G6200 churning around 76 GFlops..graphically it’s slightly lower than the adreno 320 in snapdragon 600(86-97GFlops)..so i don’t think it stands a chance against the adreno 330(166 GFlops)..let alone the adreno 430
Regardless, for the price we will be getting this at..it should be well worth it.
Do note that GFlops are only as reliable as the level of optimization and do not necessarily depict real world performance.

Even if the 64bit MediaTek chip doesn’t replicate and or surpass their main competitors SoC’s the mere fact that the average consumer can get near top grade performance at 50% to 1/3 less the price of what is considered a ‘high end’ unit would make waves and generate a lot of sales in any market place.

The GPU war on Android doesn’t make any sense as there’s no games or apps that can utilize it. S800 can still play any games on the play store at max setting.
