Following the hordes of MediaTek-based phone makers that have been announcing KitKat upgrades for their devices, China’s Gionee today outed Android KitKat for the swivel-camera E7 mini.
KitKat on any Chinese phone is pretty darn cool, but the fact that the E7 mini won’t get the update OTA is a downer. Users of the device will have to walk-in to a service center near them, where the update will be carried out free of cost. While there’s no clear reason behind not providing an OTA update, Gionee say it’s because of certain ‘hardware restrictions’, we can’t seem to imagine which.

Besides better performance, compatibility and battery life, the KitKat upgrade ditches some previously pre-existing apps such as Texas poker, Wonder Zoo, Cricket champion and Green Farmer. It also brings an all-new desktop layout, along with an updated Game Zone, UC Browser and Kingsoft suite.
Do let us know if you carry out this update on your Elife E7 mini!
