UMi have been on a bit of a break, and in that time they have regrouped and are about to make some interesting launches. The first being the mid-range UMi C1.
UMi are saying that the UMi C1 (not to be confused with the UMi Cross C1) is going to be the “2014 quad-core Killer”, but seeing as the OnePlus One has a quad-core Snapdragon 801, and the new Xiaomi does too, we assume UMi mean the C1 will be a ‘killer’ in its class.
And class is what this mid-range smartphone seems to have in abundance. The phone is built around a steel chassis which UMi tell us takes 36 hours to fully polish and aids cooling of the phone’s internals. A removable polycarbonate shell covers the back of the phone boasting a soft ‘baby skin’feel and fingerprint resistant oleophobic coating. These are certainly some nice features and that we don’t normally see, or expect on mid range phones.

As for the actual hardware that makes the UMi C1 go, we have a quad-core MT6582 processor, 1GB RAM, 2430mAh battery, 5.5-inch 720p HD display and 13 mega-pixel Sony IMX179 sensor with a 5 lens stack, but unfortunately just an F2.4 aperture.
Going over what UMi have put together for the UMi C1 in the way of promotional material the C1 does look like a quality piece of kit, and then it should really as most of the body is taken from the flagship UMi X3 smartphone, but will be priced much more competitively.

So what about price and availability? Well UMi are keeping the price a surprise for now but say the UMi C1 will have a lower price than you will expect and that major resellers will be offering the phone internationally once launched.
What do you think of the UMi C1, and how much do you think it is going to cost?
