Micromax launches budget MT6592M powered Canvas Knight Cameo

Quite a few Indian manufacturers launched budget octa-core smartphones in the recent past. This probably made the lead of the pack – Micromax – feel the heat!

The company’s newest octa-core smarphone, the Micromax Canvas Knight Cameo could stand testimony to that. The device is exactly what should compete against the likes of the Wickedleak Wammy Neo Youth and the iberry Auxus Note 5.5. Powered by a knocked down MT6592 aka the 1.4GHz MT6592M, the Canvas Knight Neo is a ‘lite’ Canvas Knight in more ways than one.

Not only does it come with an octa-core CPU from the same family, but the device also borrows quite a lot of the design language from the Micromax Canvas Knight.

Micromax Canvas Knight Cameo Specifications

  • 4.7-inch 720p HD display
  • 1.4GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6592M CPU
  • 1GB RAM
  • 8GB on-board ROM
  • 8 mega-pixel rear camera
  • 5 mega-pixel front camera
  • 2010mAh battery
  • Android v4.4.2

The Micromax Canvas Knight Cameo also comes with Dual SIM, a feature pretty damn essential for a market like India. The device will be available in India for under 12,500 INR, or roughly $205 to make the phone one of the most affordable octa-core device in the market.

Gizchina News of the week

Although a compelling buy, Micromax are going to have their work cut out if they hope the Canvas Knight Cameo can complete with Xiaomi’s onslaught. The latest Xiaomi Redmi 1S comes with  a similar specification but customers can either choose to for for the Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 version with LTE and a single SIM or the dual SIM octacore model. There is also the fact that Hugo Barra recently confirmed that the Redmi will get an Android L update sometime in the future and will also receive MIUI V6 at the end of this week.

Between the two phones which octacore would you likely go for? The Micromax Canvas Knight Cameo or the Xiaomi Redmi?
