If you’re one of the few who’ve somehow managed to get your hands on the latest Xiaomi flagship, you might’ve been surprised to find that the device does not come with Google Play pre-installed.
Like all other Xiaomi devices sold in China, the Mi 4 is no exception. Instead of the Google Play Store (and other Google services) Xiaomi devices sold in China come with Xiaomi’s own ecosystem including an app store. But if you want to install the Google Play Store on your Mi 4 without having to root the device, follow the guide below.

Quite handy, but be aware that quite a few webshops provide this as service, or at only a few dollars extra charged, often in combination with “all Chinese apps removed” and root access. Sometimes it’s just another tick box on the order form, otherwise just ask them. That’s how I got my Mi2S back in 2013. All I had left to do was to switch the language settings into my native language (all though I can also work with the English version it came with).
Yeah, almost every Chinese reseller offers that. But, you lose Play services after a factory reset (if it’s not ‘injected’ into the ROM), which is when this guide can come in handy.
