MIUI V6 for the Xiaomi Mi2 and Mi2S will be based on Android 4.1!

If you are the proud owner of a Xiaomi Mi2 or Mi2S and thought that the release of MIUI V6 would finally bring an official Android 4.4 build to your phone then think again!

MIUI V6, the latest version of Xiaomi’s custom Android ROM, was launched this past weekend and has an officially release date of October time. For the Xiaomi Mi3, and Mi4 the MIUI V6 update will be based on Android 4.4 Kitkat which brings useful features such as Open GL 3.0 and low energy Bluetooth mode to along with other useful features to get the most out of the phones.

This is all well and good if you are on the one of the newer Xiaomi devices, but what if you are on the older, but still very capable, Xiaomi Mi2 or Mi2S? Well the good news is that Xiaomi are building a MIUI V6 update for your phones, but the bad news is that it won’t be based on Android 4.4, but rather Android 4.1!

So in essence they burn the bridge with the MI 2 serie? This is the most WTF moment. I can’t believe a company that pride themselves of pleasing their fan can do this. Highly disappointed…

And on Redmi 1/1S will be based on 4.2/4.3
    Redmi: 4.2
    Redmi 1S: 4.3

And they are not interested in release kernel sources of any of their products.

Personally, mi first and last Xiaomi (also MediaTek).

BTW, in a few years Android sucks.

I hope Mer, Sailfish OS, Tizen, Ubuntu Phone, Firefox OS, SHR arrive soon to smartphones.

      Also MIPS architecture SoCs.

If this is true, it will be a big disappointment indeed. I was hoping, waiting and even expecting MIUI V6 @ 4.4.2/3/4 for months now, in order to keep my M2S up to date for at least another half year, but this is a real show stopper, if true.
