Lenovo continues its impressive show at the IFA with another two launches — the much talked-about Vibe X2 and the Vibe Z2. Both smartphones come with some exciting tech that manages to grab eyeballs.
Lenovo Vibe X2 – MT6595m True8Core
We’ve seen enough leaks and rumours around this phone already. True to the excitement and the hype, the Vibe X2 comes with MediaTek’s all-new True8Core computing, which is nothing but the MediaTek MT6595m CPU. It comes with 2 clusters of 4 cores each; one with 4x Cortex A17 cores and the other, with 4x Cortex A7 cores.
There’ll 2GB of RAM on the phone, which means that the Vibe X2 isn’t really aiming at the flagships. 32GB of on-board ROM also finds a mention on the specs sheet of the Vibe X2.
That’s for the processing section on the phone. The Vibe X2 will also rock a 5-inch 1080p display as we’ve seen in leaks previously. A 13 mega-pixel rear shooter and a 5 mega-pixel selfie-compliant front snapper make for the imaging department on the phone, which will run Android v4.4 KitKat with Lenovo’s customizations on top.
A 2300mAh battery will power the phone, which doesn’t sound too good when you realize that the phone connects to 4G LTE networks as well. Delving into the connectivity segment further, the Vibe X2 comes in two variants — dual SIM (Asia pacific only) and single SIM (international).
Gizchina News of the week
A couple of snap-on rear covers aka ‘Xtensions’ will also be put on sale later. Dubbed ‘Vibe X2 Battery’ and ‘Vibe X2 Speaker’, the names are pretty self-explanatory.
First stop for the Vibe X2 is China this October, where it’ll sell for US$399 with other Asian, Middle Eastern and European markets to follow.
Lenovo Vibe Z2 – 64-bit Snapdragon 410
The Vibe Z2 is much more a mid-ranger. It comes with a 5.2-inch 1280 x 720p display, but the star of the show remains to be the 1.4GHz Snapdragon 410 that has a 64-bit architecture, making the Vibe Z2 the company’s first 64-bit smartphone. If you remember, Lenovo also announced the Tab S8 last night that works on the 64-bit architecture and costs just $199.
This’ll again have dual SIM, but it isn’t clear yet if it will be restricted to a few specific markets. The same 13 mega-pixel rear sensor shows on the Vibe Z2 but with OIS and BSI. Making a clean sweep over the Vibe X2’s cameras, this phone features an 8 mega-pixel front snapper as well.
The Vibe Z2 is also expected to run Android L, but it isn’t clear if it will ship with it right out of the box. A 3000mAh battery will keep business going for the Vibe Z2.
The device is set to go on sale for US$429, following the Vibe X2’s footsteps.
