After announcing their love for India, a few members of the OnePlus team landed in the country a couple of days back. This includes OnePlus Global’s director Carl Pei, who indulged with fans in a meetup they organized in Bangalore earlier today.
Speaking to FoneArena, Pei divulged a quite a part of OnePlus’ plans for India. What fans in India should care about, anyway, is that the company is expecting to start operations with the OnePlus One by December 2014, which is just a little over a couple of months away. “If everything goes as planned, we can launch our product before December this year, but since there are always uncertainties, we don’t want to promise something until we are 100% sure,” Pei said.

He also went on to state that OnePlus was actively looking to build a local team in India, and that IIM Ahmedabad is helping them with recruiting individuals for the same. About pricing, it was said that OnePlus is eyeing a sub-25,000 INR (US$414) figure price tag for the 64GB version of the OnePlus One. While the 16GB variant for global markets is yet to go on sale, Pei pointed out that it could be a possibility for India. “We haven’t made any 16GB global version yet, so we are still looking at the possibility of bringing it. That said, I think there is huge opportunity for the 16GB model if we price it lower in India.”
Pei and the entire OnePlus team seem to have realized the potential in the Indian market. It’s a market that has seen a lot of interest in the recent months, especially from companies that root back to China, with the most recent example being Xiaomi. If OnePlus manage to price the One right, it could really take the market to an all-new level, with the consumer having more options than ever before.
