Xiaomi, OPPO, et al have been hogging the limelight in the Indian market. Micromax, the local maker that toppled Samsung from the #1 position in the country, is now beginning to feel the heat, or so it appears. After a quiet few months (on the flagship segment, at least), the top OEM is set to get back in the game.
Micromax has been active on the TV commercial scene as well, aggressive with its latest commercial that takes a dig at Xiaomi’s policy that requires users to be ‘registered’ or have a ‘priority pass’ before proceeding with their purchase. Take a look:
Gizchina News of the week
Also what the ad gives away is the fact that this upcoming flagship will sell exclusively via Snapdeal.com, which not-so-coincidentally happens to Flipkart, that has been the e-retailer of choice for almost all of the newcomers in the Indian market. A faux leather rear is also noticed in the teasers, but that’s about it.
Considering the sudden interest in high-end phones with a mid-range price that the country has seen, we expect the phone to be priced around the 13,000 INR (US$215) mark; close to the Mi 3 price of 13,999 INR.
The event is scheduled for tomorrow at the national capital of New Delhi. We’ll keep you posted on this, so stay tuned!
