If you are one of the Xiaomi Mi2 or Mi2S owners who were upset that MIUI V6 would be based on an older version of Android for your device we have good news! It looks like Xiaomi have had a change of heart and released an Android 4.4 dev version.
A few weeks ago we reported that users of the older Xiaomi Mi2 and Mi2S flagship phones would have to settle for MIUI V6 based on Android 4.1, a huge blow to the Xiaomi community, and also the Oppo community too, why? Well the issue, according to sources, wasn’t that Xiaomi (or Oppo) didn’t want to update the ROM, but the fact that Qualcomm hadn’t released the relevant source to make it possible. Fast forward to this week and we learn that Oppo have been able to work around it for the Find 5 and now that Xiaomi have too!
Gizchina News of the week
Currently this version of MIUI V6 based on Android 4.4 is for the Xiaomi Mi2 and Mi2S and is really just a developer build, so you can expect a few bugs and optimisation issues, but the fact that his has been released is amazing news.
More details can be found on the MIUI forums, and if anyone tries it out please let us know how it is as I gave my trust Mi2 away.

Great news. I can name various other manufacturers that don’t listen so well to their customers as Xiaomi apparently does…
