Microsoft’s new CEO Satya Nadella is currently on a trip across China. According to a report there has been a secret meeting between Satya Nadella and Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun. While the exact purpose of this meeting isn’t known, rumors are heating up according to which Xiaomi might be considering the launch of Windows-based mobile devices in the future. Sources are talking about a Windows-based version of the Xiaomi MiPad and maybe even phones, which could be especially attractive for business customers.
We however don’t expect a Windows-based Xiaomi device to hit the market anytime soon. It is more likely that the meetings sole purpose was the exchange of information, thoughts and knowledge. Satya Nadella might have taken the chance to offer their Windows products to Lei Jun, but it is unlikely the company will ever make use of this system for obvious reasons, most important one being their very own eco-system.
Gizchina News of the week
It hasn’t been long since Xiaomi officially announced their plans on taking over some of the iPad market share by teaming up with developers to make their MIUI eco-system even more attractive and successful by offering more attractive, tablet optimized apps for their Android based custom ROM within their own app store. The software base is one of the most important criteria for the success of any mobile device, and as Windows is still struggling with exactly this when it comes to tablets and phones, Xiaomi probably won’t even give this a second thought these days.
So what about you? Would you welcome a Windows-based Xiaomi device, or do you prefer if they stick to their perfectly optimized MIUI platform?

Wouldn’t be the worst idea for M$ to try buy Xiaomi. They would ruin it instantly though and the industry would love them for that.
They could also try to get Xiaomi to sell the Xbox in exchange for getting some of their services on it.
