While a lot of tech enthusiasts are still trying to get their hands on the OnePlus One, the company has gone on to hint at a successor that might come as early as Q2 or Q3 next year.
The OnePlus One was announced in April this year, and is sold on an invite-only basis. However, this model is all set to get a refresh with the pre-order system that will be put in place starting late October.
Coming back to the OnePlus Two (that would be the most obvious choice for a name), the device is expected to feature a smaller screen than the current 5.5 inches of the OnePlus One. Before officially announcing the One, OnePlus spoke extensively about how the device would be a 5.5 inch phone in the body of a 5 inch phone. However, this was clearly not to be.
Gizchina News of the week
A Reddit AMA session today made us learn about the OnePlus Two. “OnePlus 2 should be out in Q2 or Q3 of 2015. By that time, I’d think Android L would be standard. :).” said folks from the company. About the possibility of the device getting a smaller screen, OnePlus said “We’ve seen a lot of people asking for a smaller device, and want to let everyone know that we hear you. We’re thinking about it.”
So, it is quite clear that OnePlus wants to make it up to those who were left dejected by the unorthodox invite only system. The company also said that they underestimated demand by 30x, which lead to the scarcity.

I think using a smaller screen would be a colossally big mistake.
They should figure out how to keep the device the same size while expanding the screen to 5.7″ or 5.9″ at 2560×1440 or 3840×2160.
64bit, 4GB (or more) memory, dual-SIM or tri-SIM, a micro-xD memory slot, and a LOT more LTE frequencies for both FD-LTE and TD-LTE.
My opinion is that if they could cut down on the size of the phone a bit while keeping the screen at 5.5 or possibly lowering it to 5.3 that would be nice. I personally don’t see the point of higher than FHD resolution. A larger resolution needs more power but even if they could get a higher res screen that consumes less energy, I’d prefer an FHD screen and more battery time.
64bit with 4GB should be standard by then and such a phone could possibly be suitable to use docked as an Ubuntu desktop or even a Windows desktop especially with 128 GB storage.
Triple boot anyone? Android, Ubuntu, Windows 9? I’d love that.
More frequencies are also a must given how large is the demand from all over the world.
I have a Nubia Z7 with the 2k screen, it is a thing of beauty but I would trade it for a 1080p in a heartbeat, my battery would last nearly twice as long.
By the time the OnePlus Two comes out you will finally be able to buy the OnePlus One without hassle…
