THL T6S redefines low-cost octacore at just $106.99!

THL have had an overall quiet year this year, but perhaps that was all part of the plan and they have been silently waiting so they can make a surprise attack with the low-cost THL T6S!

The T6S is the latest smartphone from THL, and will be available for pre-order in the coming days. Not having actually had the phone in our hands we cannot say how well it performs, but a quick scan of the specs reveals the following.

At just $106.99 the THL T6S has stiff competition from the likes of the Xiaomi Redmi, but does it really hold up in a fair fight? Well there is an octacore processor, Android 4.4 kitkat, dual SIM and a micro SD card on board, which is all good, but what about the rest?

Well the main camera is just 5 mega-pixels, the processor is the MT6592M meaning a lower clock speed and GPU and the 5-inch display has a resolution of just 854 x 480!

For the price the THL T6S is going to win over a few fans thanks to that octacore chip, but in all honesty it might be worth spending a similar amount (or slightly more) on a phone with a more balanced set up.

What do you make of the first batch of super low-cost octacore phones?

This is the Pro variant: the normal THL T6S uses the MT6582M.

THL was once one of the top up and coming manufacturers in China but this past year has been let down after let down. The Monkey King is still one of my favorite phones, and even today still looks great. The Iron Man was a good looking phone. Instead of continuing with either of those they released the boring and under-powered 4000 and 5000.

How is the THL 5000 underpowered? For a Mediatek device it is very good.

It uses the 6592 which is a good processor but for a phone that is supposed to be their “flagship” it is under-powered. It’s about as powerful as a 2013 flagship using a mediatek chip.

At least it uses the turbo variant

Cheap octacore indeed, but with everything else, plus this being one of the ugliest phones on the market right now (I mean, what’s up with that camera bulge?) this isn’t worth the money. Better spend that 100 bucks on a nice MTK6582 phone like the Elephone G4 or the Leagoo Lead 2.
