It’s a big year for Meizu fans this year, with a scheduled 4 phone launches and now rumours that a smart router is on the cards!
Previous to this year, Meizu had always stuck to launching a single smartphone product (plus variations) each year. The idea was that it gave the company time to perfect their next product (not always the case) and not have to worry about spreading their resources too thinly.
That’s all changed this year, and with new investment (the largest of which from Alibaba) Meizu have started to work more products than ever. We have already seen the Meizu MX4 launch, and are expecting a Meizu MX4 pro, mini plus another larger device, and now sources say we can also look forward to smart home products.
Gizchina News of the week
The first of these Meizu branded smartphone home products is thought to be a smart router, similar to the Xioami router and Huawei’s router. Although details haven’t been announced we expect internal storage and an app that will allow access via your Flyme login details.
Other smart home devices running Android are also rumoured including an Android TV box.
How long before we see a Meizu tablet or gaming device do you think?
If the price is about the same as Xiaomi products, then I welcome these products. More choice for the consumers is a good thing.
A smart router makes sense for the fans of the brand. TV box makes no sense now that the government is exerting heavy pressure on hardware + media providers on various fronts. Alibaba investment in Meizu is only a widespread rumor; there is zero confirmation. Rumor reported as a news item is stock-in-trade in China.
