Early unboxing photos of the UMi Zero reveal a new ‘Z’ clip on protective case.

UMi have taken the interesting initiative to ship their new UMi Zero phone with a protective Silver case in the shape of a ‘Z’.

The ‘Z’ case was spotted in early unboxing photos taken by online E-seller Efox. The ‘Z’ case is an interesting solution to the problem of protecting your phone without spoiling the overall look of the device.

The top and bottom edges of the letter still proved impact protection to the corners of the phone in the event of it being dropped, while the sides are left exposed so you can still see the alloy body beneath.

Holes for the speaker, LED flash and 13 mega-pixel F1.8 Sony camera have been cut in to the material, which could either by a highly polished alloy or silver plastic.

We think it looks great, but not sure if we would actually every use it. What do you think of the UMi Zero ‘Z’ case?

Interesting, looks like a good compromise of an age old problem. Many of us buy phones partly based on how good they look and then slap a plastic case over it and cover the whole thing up!

  Completely agree. I never use covers. Don’t like them just cause they hide the design.

    Yea I have never been a huge fan of covers think it takes away from the phone itself. I buy a phone for two reasons: looks and real world performance.

      Same here, if you are going to use a case you might as well buy the ugliest phone because it won’t be seen. Especially these new phones I think don’t even need a screen protector, I love the feeling of the glass on my fingertips, it would be a shame to ruin it when it’s already scratch resistant anyway. If you are not super clumsy and you pay a bit of attention you will never drop your phone. In 13 years since I have a mobile I can only recall 1 occasion when I have dropped a phone and none of my devices had a case.

At best the so called ‘cover’ can only protect the edges but 299 is too much….

with such a beautiful and its tariff placement smartphone, I still do not understand the lack of 4G.
For if the OS is successful, sales could explode!

First of all, I think that the phone looks amazing. There’s just a small resemblance with the big and ugly Mi3, but imo that design in a very thin body like this really looks beautiful. As I said, it’s my opinion.
Second, the Z case it’s simply one of the most daring, refreshing and mind blowing cases ever!!! Again, it’s a matter of taste. For someone like me who hate covers and never use them because thinks that it’s just stupid buying a nice piece of tech and then hide it with a cover, this is perfect.
The guys at UMI have just make a nice choice. A cover that partially protects the phone and improves the design.
I just love it.
Finally, I don’t get some of the comments around here bitching bout the price and the packaging… C’mon guys, this is China, the whole box will not cost more than one dollar here. Even the Z case must be ridiculously cheap to make.
Yeah, I woul like LTE included for that price, but lots of flagships here, like the Mi4 (at least when it was launched) or IUNI U3, have no LTE. Most of them flagships are too thick (8.9mm)
Maybe the price is because the two awesome cameras both with LED, a nice display, fast charging battery, dual SIM and, above all this, a high quality alloy body that makes the Zero thinner than the Iphone 6 (seriously wow).

  Originally I thought the price was a bit much but then looking back I noticed that was the same price for the Gionee S5.5 which looks just like this and also lacked LTE. The reason that I think so many people don’t agree with the price is because you can get a Nubia Z7 mini and Xiaomi Mi3 for the same or less and both of those are much better phones.

Are you sure about the $299 price for the Umi Zero?? Multiple retailers have it listed for as low as $229. At that price it is an interesting phone. Even OPPOMart who overcharges for everything isn’t that high.
