There’s a lot of hoopla around the recent Android One launch. It’s a Google effort to bring Android to the masses at affordable prices, which seems to be working so far. Even Xiaomi’s given it a thought, that’s how far the program has already gone.
Xolo today launched the Xolo One, a smartphone which is cunningly given a name so as to make the reader believe its a phone from the Android One series. Even the specifications match one-to-one… well, almost. However, at 6,599 INR (US$107), it’s more expensive than all of the three Android One phones.
Specifications
- 4.5-inch 854 x 480p display
- 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6582M processor
- 1GB RAM
- 8GB on-board storage
- 5 mega-pixel rear camera
- 2 mega-pixel front camera
- 1700mAh battery
- Android v4.4 KitKat
- Dual SIM
The only thing that buyers of the Xolo One will miss is the surrounding package that comes with Android One phones, which is the USP of the scheme if you ask me. With due respect to Xolo, it would hardly make sense for anyone to go for this device with Android One phones readily available at lesser prices.
Anyway, if you do decide to go for this one, you’ll have a choice between White, Black, Red and Brown colour variants.
