Oppo could be ready to launch a 4mm thin smartphone

Oppo and Gionee have been passing the world’s thinnest smartphone title between each other for years, now Oppo are ready to snatch it right back.

Starting with the Oppo Finder 3, Oppo have always been keen to show that they can create a smartphone that not only packs features but is thin to look at and hold too. Since then though we have seen plenty of other thin Oppo phones, but it is rivals Gionee who currently hold the title.

Gionee’s Elife 5.1 is a 5.1mm thin smartphone, that has been on sale for the past few months. Seeing Gionee hold on to the title is certainly eating at Oppo who today started to tease that they are ready to fight back.

Gizchina News of the week

As usual the reports appeared on Weibo first and have quickly spread around the Chinese tech press. Details are hard to come by but it looks like Oppo will be launching a smartphone with a body of just 4+mm in the coming weeks.

Such a thin phone surely isn’t going to be cheap, so we believe this narrow flagship fill have LTE and run one of the latest 64bit Mediatek processors. Sizing will be between 5 – 5.5inch, but it is the size of the battery and the consequent battery life which we are most intrigued with. Will such a thin phone pack enough power for a whole day?

With this news Gionee are sure to retaliate, and we also have to keep an eye on Vivo who are also known for making equally slender devices.

There is no point to build such thin phones.. most of the thin phones comes with a small battery capacity. Make it regular thick with bigger battery, with thin bezels big screen to size ratio. Put a dual speakers on it, good camera and voilla you build a good phone!.

there is some points: ergonomic design and for the sake of science, pushing possibilities to limit could lead technology to the next level. if engineer of smartphone thinking like you smartphone would be so ugly no improvement because there is no challenge to themself, there is no invention for thin display, thin battery, thin material.

small battery statement is invalid gionee elife s5.5 has 2300mah inside 5.5mm body same as nexus 5.

And Nexus is well known for its small battery capacity and endurance. Search the web or any reviews about how long the battery last 🙂 so its not invalid. 2300mah is very weak for 5.5inch screen good luck with that.

People are not interested in 5.5mm body , people are interested in phones with good battery life. And thats the biggest problems these days with the smartphones.

We are getting to a point where it is too thin. My Mi4 is 8.9mm and that is about the thickness I want for my phone. I need to at least be able to feel it in my hand. I love the looks of the Gionee but once I held it, it was like holding a hershey bar.

think about the day you won’t be able to lift your smartphone when it sits on the table because your fingernails are too short to actually grab it
