You’ll soon be able to purchase OnePlus One StyleSwap Bamboo covers (if you’re lucky)

It is really difficult to stop hearing, and some times, stop talking about the OnePlus phenomenon. The less than a year old company made a truly wonderful smartphone, offered it for less than U$400 to make waves in the smartphone industry. However, there have been more controversies about OnePlus than the company would’ve liked, which is a bit of shame.

Recently, OnePlus announced that it would no longer be making the previously-promised StyleSwap covers. These would replace the Silk White or Sandstone Black covers that the OnePlus One ships with, and would allow you to choose from a range of exotic-looking cases including Bamboo, Denim and Kevlar. However, the quality standards that OnePlus apparently maintained turned out to be too much for the production facilities, which eventually lead to cancellation of the entire StyleSwap program.

But. There’s a few (hundred) Bamboo StyleSwap covers that the company have lying around, which they’re looking to sell to OnePlus owners. And guess what? You’ll be needed an invite to purchase these Bamboo StyleSwap covers. However, invites for these covers will be distributed randomly (unlike invites for the OnePlus One itself, which were given on the basis of things like forum activity, etc.).

Gizchina News of the week

So if you own a OnePlus One and would like to give it a Bamboo makeover, read complete details of the giveaway on the OnePlus forums, fill out this form, and then sit with crossing fingers.

In related news, talks about a homebrew ROM for the next OnePlus smartphone were overheard. Also, the OnePlus One finally went on pre-sale yesterday (albeit only for one hour), giving respite to those who missed on getting an invite. However, fans of the smartphone in India will be needing an invite (of a special kind) when it does go on sale in India.

I just don’t get it. Why Oneplus don’t want to give away the blueprints of the bacк covers to any china productions? Don’t want to take responsibility for back covers and multiple changes – give it to someone who doesn’t care) Let the owners choose what to buy, original or a replica

because the one has a design flaw which can lead to screw up, changing the backcover

As the owner of this phone i don’t give a damn about that. I will change back cover maybe once. Theу sell the black and white ones, but with bamboo and others materilas they screw up. They a just to lazy or have only motive to speculate in special editions on extra price.

no no no, they are talking about the method to change them. they are talking about breaking the cover with the method to remove it

Perhaps because they wouldn’t be certain about the quality of stuff 3rd party companies make? Anyway, I don’t think it is very difficult for a company to dish out an alternative to StyleSwap.

Would’ve been my first choice too. It’s a shame it’ll never see light of day.
