The Xiaomi Mi2 is a few years old now but still pocesses great hardware even by today’s standards so it is not surprising to see the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop making its way to the device.

Xiaomi are notoriously slow when it comes to updating their MIUI ROM to the latest version of Android. We are now starting to receive MIUI V6 updates based on Android 4.4 for certain Xiaomi phones, but it’s already a little late with Android 5.0 on the way.

But all is not lost, as Xiaomi Mi2 users can at least start to look forward to stock Android 5.0 Lollipop on their phones thanks to Chinese MIUI developer @akiba. The developer posted on his Weibo that he cannot give a firm launch date as he needs to work out a few key bugs, but promises to release the ROM as soon as possible.

The Xiaomi Mi2 is a Snapdragon S4 phone with 2GB RAM and 4.5-inch 720p display. The later Mi2S has a more powerful Snapdragon 600 and 13 mega-pixel rear camera.
