Huawei responds to Mate 2 Kitkat update upset with promise of Lollipop

Huawei Ascend Mate 2 owners will know all to well that Huawei had announced that a Kitkat update wouldn’t be happening. Upsetting times, but there is a Lollipop shaped silver lining.

The Huawei Ascend Mate 2, Huawei’s popular phablet ran in to a bit of a brick wall a few months back when Huawei announced that international owners of the phone shouldn’t expect a Kitkat update (Chinese customers had already received one). At the time we did suggest that it was possible that Huawei were simply skipping Kitkat for Lollipop, a long shot but the right call.

Over on the Gethuawei blog, the Huawei team updated the news yesterday to inform fans that their 6.1-inch, LTE phones would be receiving an update from Jelly Bean to Android 5.0 Lollipop.

The update will come in the first half of 2015, so anywhere from a few months to over a half a year wait is in store for Mate 2 owners, but at least they will finally get to enjoy the sweet taste of a new Android version for the phones.
