Ok, so if you are reading this then you are also one of the thousands who are really very fed up with the wait for Meizu’s Ubuntu phone, but all is not lost and your wait will finally come to an end early next year.
Our sources at Meizu have informed us that Ubuntu and Meizu have been in meeting for the past few days to put the final touches to their agreement to launch an Ubuntu powered phone. It’s not just a wild rumour either as Chinese sources say that a final contract has been written up and the first phones from the deal should launch early next year.
Gizchina News of the week
Meizu originally showed off Ubuntu on their phones around this time last year and since that time fans have been eagerly awaiting to here when the phone will go on sale. So far we are not sure on the exact date of launch, or if it will be the MX4 or MX4 Pro which will first get the Ubuntu treatment, but what we can say is better late than never.
Finally, a Ubuntu phone hope it has an FHD screen 🙂
The bad thing about this is that meizu will once again launch the same hardware with diffrent software all locked up so you will have to buy it again… (look at flyme and flyme YunOs witch brings updates that you cant have if you were an mx4 normal buyer ) the mistake is that meizu lock EVERYTHING up nice and smooth.
Doubtful. They may launch an MX4 or MX4 Pro that ships with Ubuntu out of the box, but it should also be an alternative available to existing MX3 + MX4 models, but perhaps not the MX2. Android-based Flyme is too well entrenched and Ubuntu is going to be an alternative to a minority of users. With two more new models supposedly coming, Meizu just can’t keep cranking out all these different versions of their phones. YunOS is a special case since it is a cooperative agreement with Alibaba, a company that dwarfs Meizu and has their own powerful, vested (financial) interest in attracting and retaining users.
There is hope 🙂
