Xiaomi ban lifted in India for Qualcomm devices

xiaomi mi4 review

A few days ago Xiaomi was hit with a ban preventing the sale of its device in India, new reports say that the ban will be lifted for some products early next year.

Xiaomi headed in to India this year where the market quickly became the second largest in terms of sales for the Chinese brand. With that in mind it was quite a blow to hear that the Delhi High Court banned Xiaomi products from being sold after receiving a patent based complaint from Ericsson.

Today sources are stating that the patent issues are regarding phones running Mediatek processors only, and that Xiaomi phones with Qualcomm processors not be effected by the ban. In fact Xiaomi will be able to import and being sales of Qualcomm powered Redmi phones from as early as 8th January.

However a ban for the entire Xiaomi range could come in to effect again if Xiaomi and Ericsson don’t come to some sort of mutual agreement in upcoming meetings.
