It’s one we have been wondering about and a lunch which has much confusion in the tech world, and now here it is! So was the wait for the Cyanogen powered Yureka worth it?
Micromax announcing a sub brand to launch a higher spec, low-cost phone is hardly surprising. Gionee did it with IUNI and it is even believed that the new Meizu range of phones will come under their own Milan sub brand.
What did come as bit of a shock was when Micromax announced that Cyanogen had agreed to exclusively work on the project, meaning Indian customers of the OnePlus One would not receive CM updates!
With CM on board the Yu project started to look rather interesting, and now the phone has launched at a low Rs 8999 price tag customers can decide if the phone was worth the wait and disruption!
Starting at the front of the device the Yureka has a 5.5-inch HD display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 panel for protection. Above that sits a 5 mega-pixel front facing camera which will over 1080p video recording at 30fps out of the box and 120fps coming on future updates.
Cyanogen runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor clocked at 1.5Ghz with 2GB RAM on tap and an Adreno 405 GPU. The Snapdragon CPU also brings with it CAT 4 LTE, and dual SIM support, and even room for a micro SD card if the internal 16GB memory isn’t enough.
Other hardware includes a 13 mega-pixel main camera, with F2.2 aperture and 2500mAh battery, and if we are honest it is these parts of the phone which let the side down. We would have prefered at least an F2.0 and 3000mAh battery.
Good hardware a low price and Cyanogen aren’t the only interesting features Yu will offer with the Yureka though. Yu will allow you to root your phone under warranty and are offering a doorstep repair or replacement service for the phone.
The Yureka cost Rs 8999 and will be available exclusively through Amazon with registration for the device starting tomorrow.
What do you think of the Micromax Yu? Was it worth the hype? is it worth the price? and do you plan to buy one?

Ban of Xiaomi and Oneplus One in India not worth the Hype of Micromax shitty phones. Cyanogen in all this episode is a whore to me.
Good one bro.
why the hate?? to me, it’s not a shitty phone at all, the spec is much better than Redmi 1S, with the price only slightly higher. It even beat Redmi Note on paper. You also have Cyanogen instead of MIUI. Unless you own Oneplus / Xiaomi, or works for them, you don’t have to go that far.
I don’t hate it, rather I’m disappointed. I didn’t have high hopes to start with, but trying to build up all this hype, and then releasing a rebranded phone? It’s just overall very disappointing. I guess I was expecting too much from them. It was just way overhyped.
