It’s thanks once again to the developer community that the Xiaomi Redmi 1S has already received an update to Android 5.0 Lollipop.
The Redmi 1S is the bread and butter phone in the Xiaomi range and one which has been popular with buyers in China, India and in other markets even if the phone hasn’t officially been launched.
With such interest in the device, a thriving community of developers have been fast to release custom ROM’s for the phone. The newest made available over on the MIUI forums is the unofficial Android L Mokee rom.
Mokee is based on Android 5.0.1 and in its current state is a beta only, but a stable version is expected in just 10 days. The ROM comes pre-rooted so you don’t need to go through any additional steps once installed.
Users over on the MIUI forums have already reviewed the ROM (here).

I remember I bought my phone and in the time it took to came from China 2.3 appeared.
One of the reasons I advocate against MTK devices when it comes to updates
