Xiaomi will be holding an event in Beijing on the 15th of Jan (8 days from now) leading Mi fans to speculate at what could be at the launch, the top suggestion being the Xiaomi Mi5.
What we know as fact so far is that Xiaomi will be launching something in Beijing at an event on the 15th of this month, what we don’t know for sure is what exactly will be at the launch, but we can have a look at the evidence to guess.
Our first clue came from Hugo Barra at the time he announced that Xiaomi would release the kernel source code for the Xiaomi Mi3, but had to wait until early 2015. The wait is due to the fact that two new phones use the same source and the code would have given the game away! (read more here).

With that in mind we can assume a Xiaomi Mi3 based phone is at least one of the launch phones for the 15th. Perhaps an updated Mi3 with LTE at a bargain basement price? Perhaps a Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 with more powerful hardware? We just don’t know.
However, this doesn’t explain the plentiful Xiaomi Mi5 rumours from spreading. Usually Xiaomi wait until later in the year to launch their flagship phones, but with continued pressure from OnePlus, Huawei, Meizu and even Asus, Xiaomi might feel like pushing a launch forward to keep ahead of the pack.
So if Xiaomi are launching a flagship Mi5 then what can we expect? Well rumours from various sources claim a 5.7-inch 2K display and Snapdragon 810 chipset can be expected. Being a flagship device LTE, 3GB RAM and a 16 mega-pixel rear camera are all part of the (rumoured) package too.
Whatever Xiaomi do have up their sleeves we only have a short time to wait, and likely a good few teasers and leaks to get through before the big day.
What are you hoping for from Xiaomi on the 15th?
Why would a Xiaomi mi3 be at the launch event of 2015 even with LTE its old even if it was cheap that is nothing to get excited about.
It IS something to get excited about, especially if it’s going to keep the same price and get updated specs.
My point was its hardly worth having a keynote for that. And they said a new flagship why would I be excited by a device that is going to get updated that this summer will be 2 years old even if it is cheaper its good news bit so what.
