Bezeless glass panel from a future Nubia phone photographed

nubia

Will 2015 be the year of bezeless smartphone displays? Some think it is a possibility with ZTE’s Nubia taking point.

First of all why do Chinese tech fans across Weibo believe this is a Nubia panel? Well it all comes down to the round breathing home button in the middle of the chin of the panel which looks like the Nubia Z7 and previous Z5 phones.

Judging by the hand the panel is in the glass display is from a 5-inch or slightly larger phone. Looking at the current Nubia lineup we can’t tell if this will be the display for a new Nubia flagship, or if this phone will be another ultra thin smartphone to compete with Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi.

I don’t want to carry a > 5.5″ phablet in my pocket, so if this is indeed a bezeless design @ a 5″ screen size, they have definitively drawn my attention!

well if you drop it you have a broken glass and wasted like 600$ xD a little bit of protection is still needed (until we can create holograms in the air <3)

Gorilla Glass isn’t invincible, genius. If you drop it, it’ll still break.

True. And bezels won’t make it better. They are under the same glass anyway 99% of the time.

Most phone screen crack on the narrowest point of contact, aka the bezel.

And? Having 1-2 mm thin bezel won’t help at all. And protective case will work as good as before.

At all? Says who? A flimsy silicone vs metal, guess which work better?

But eh, w/e believe what you want to believe. I don’t really care what phone some anon is using.

What metal? There is no metal even if you have bezels. Device front is usually one piece glass. And if you drop a phone on it’s edge without a case it will brake even if it have regular bezels (unless it’s nokia). They will crack anyway, so whats your point?

this should be a new kind of glass that’s hard enough to sustain higher drop, gorilla glass was just an exapmle but looks like I have to explain everything right? Or all the engineers that worked on this decided that a glasse that would explode after the first shock is fine….. GENIUS

Are you an idiot? You were the one who brought up gorilla glass. This whole conversation has been about gorilla glass. It has literally nothing to do with different types of glasses.

What? Any chinese flagship smartphone costs about $300.
If you need a protection, buy ugly plastic cases and protective glass

X6 is not a regular flagship. It is just an enormous phablet.
          Look at Z5, Z7, Mi4, MX4, Honor 6 etc. etc. etc.

I´m talking about smartphones, not phablets, tablets, laptops etc.
Of course, some brands have different pricing, some more expensive models for western market, but who cares?

For one a 5,5″ is a phablet, for another it’s just a smartphone.
But the Nubia Z7 flagship model (the Z7, not the Z7 mini or Z7 max) costs at least $600 for international buyers.
Most Vivo models are true flagship devices and cost at least $500.
The Huawei Ascend Mate also at least $500.
