Xiaomi saying tomorrows launch is not the Mi5 in latest teaser

Less than a day to go and the speculation and teasers continue with Xiaomi giving more hints about their upcoming flagship. It won’t be the Xioami Mi5.

One of the most enduring rumours about tomorrows Xiaomi launch is that we will see the launch of the Mi5. It’s a rumour we haven’t subscribed to as it is simply to early to release a replacement to the Mi4, and it seems today the Xiaomi are confirming that too!

The above image, posted on Xiaomi’s Weibo, says “NOT 5”, the Chinese text with the image also confirms that the words are “NOT 5” (不是小米5) . So Xiaomi are not launching a Xiaomi Mi5 tomorrow? Then what will we see?

Well the wording can easily be read as “Note” which confirms our feeling that we will see a high-end phablet in Beijing tomorrow, the “5” also happens to look like an “S” which could point to more than one flagship phablet released!

It has been a long time that a phone maker has managed to wrap a launch in so much mystery, only Xiaomi know what they have planned and we cannot wait to see the full details. Keep posted for the launch news as it happens tomorrow.

I guess tomorrow will tell. I have never been interested in any Xiaomi device up to the Mi4. Maybe this one will change that.

it’s probably a phablet version of the mi5 range like the note or the mx4 pro, if it doesn’t have a fingerprint scanner it can’t be a pro now can it ? wonder what it’ll be called ?

The way i see it. The launch tomorrow is for two devices. A replaceable to the Redmi Note and a high end phablet.
Here’s hoping it will be good and more available to the international market ….

I guess their next generation flagship will come with two different size like Apple’s fashion. Mi5 and Mi5 Note.
Mi5 could have 5.2″ FHD display, while Mi5 Note came with 5.7″ QHD display.
Actually it’s a good time for Redmi Note 2, but we got zero leakage for that, so I have discarded it.

The most important question is the price.After the Redmi 2 this might confirm that they don’t do great prices anymore. Or maybe not.
4GB of RAM is likely after Micron’s comments last week, a deal with Qualcomm to get SD810 early after Mediatek gave Meizu priority is also possible (there was that rumor about a Xiaomi -Mediatek conflict). Thin, big and HIFI are confirmed. 13MP cam seems certain too but 24Mp would be interesting.
If they have 1440p and microSD at 2000CNY,that’s great even if SD810 will be disappointing. Anything less is not good enough to maintain their reputation.
Wish they would make at least one device i could consider buying,even if just for the hell of it not out of need. The tablet is 4:3 , Redmi 2 and Note are outdated , MI3 and MI4 have no microSD….
We’ll see but if they start to go for uncompetitive pricing they’ll get crushed outside China by players that are more aggressive. In China the brand will keep them strong but outside their brand is meaningless and folks like Huawei, Meizu, Asus and others will be more than happy to grab market share.

  Agree, if the rumored prices are true (above 3000 yuan), it would be not that interesting for me even if the specs are great.
  I was hoping for a worthy upgrade of the mi4, perhaps snapdragon 805 or 810 for 1999 yuan with more ram and perhaps a better camera.
  If Xioami is not introducing a cheap Note 2 phone tomorrow, I guess Meizu and other manufacturers will have a small lead in the budget market phones with MT6752 chipset. This could also mean the conflict between Xiaomi and Mediatek is true (not introducing phones anymore with Mediatek chipsets).

  Couldn’t agree more, really wished Xiaomi made a phone I would actually buy as up till now nothing they have produced appeals. Hopefully this will change tomorrow…

      I couldn’t go any longer without a phone so I’ve bought a Pipo T8 for temporary use and as a backup phone in the future. At least this way I can wait and see what handsets come out over the next 5-6 months (assuming I can wait that long)! TBH I’m more interested now in what MT6795 phones we are going to see 🙂

        Well after using the T8 for a few days I have to say that I’m very impressed. It has more features than any phone in its price range with a beautiful screen, excellent camera (even the 2mp front camera is better than many of the 13mp cameras on some of the phones I’ve used)! The size is not actually an issue for me even though I was worried about it, it just feels natural and surprisingly comfortable. As for negatives the audio isn’t the best, call quality/reception is excellent but again the sound through the earpiece seem ‘distant’ but is something I don’t care much for as I don’t use my mobiles much to make calls! It also has MHL which I like and isn’t found on many handsets.
        As for experience with Chinese phones, I have purchased (for me/friends/family) the Cubot P9 (absolute rubbish), Lenove S960 (fake specs with awful screen/camera but great ROM), inew V7 (a phone that has impressed me immensely considering the price with fantastic screen, camera, battery life and ROM). Kingzone K1 turbo (my favourite phone until my wife broke it and I killed it taking it apart trying to fix it). We’ve also got a Neken N6 and N6 pro, again excellent screens and cameras with a smooth ROM that has never had a single issue in the 12 months they have both been used. Also had an HDC M8 and S5 clones (both had excellent screens and good cameras but shockingly awful ROM’s and were ultimately returned as they were unusable). The Tianhe H920+ (2.5D FHD screen that is the best I’ve seen on a phone, wife has had it for 18 months and it still leaves me gobsmacked at how good the screen is. The cameras are good under good lighting conditions but the ROM is not the best as we can’t install anything as it keeps saying memory is full even though it isn’t). Also got 2 Onda V975M’s a V1 and V3, stunning hardware, atrocious ROMs, but with some modding have become more than usable for the price paid. Also got a Chuwi V17HD and 2 Chuwi VX3’s (great screens and ROMs). Lastly got a Kolina K100, supposed to have 13mp camera but according to apps I’ve installed only 4.9mp, ok screen, camera is ok under good lighting, the flash in incredibly bright and ROM is ok, nothing special and not a phone I would recommend.

  IF Xiaomi releases any phone above 2500 Rmb it’ll flop for sure,
  maybe they should just release 128 GB as a standard option at a higher price like 3000 RMB ,that might work.
  Who knows a international launch too might happen soon , given the higher price it would make sense.

I like the image design. Look like Xiaomi wants to underline phone materials (NOTS and bottom part). Probably that could be trendy sapphire. Tomorrow will see…

Always knew there was no Mi5 coming. Didnt make sense.
The Note 2 from its specs seems to be meant to give Meizu a competition with its Mx4 an Mx4 pro, by offering a budget version of what Meizu can offer. Then ofourse we have the Honor 6 plus and Iphone 6 plus in that 5.5 inch category they intend to compete with.
